1. the Jeep Gladiator is under contract to promise production for union purpose till 2028. So less than 3 years out from contract expiration they are gonna try and develop a 392, get it tested and rated all before 2027?
Speaking strictly to product life cycles, the JL/JT will ride out the decade on the same chassis.

What happens in 30 is totally up in the air. Literally everything from Rampage based Gladiator to 2500 based Gladiator has been floated sincerely.

Winds are not in favor of it staying Wrangler based, right now, but they have 2.5 years before they have to decide.

Still hoping it turns out to be a 5.7 gladiator for a more modest upcharge of 8K or around there.
This is what Jeep needs to do if they're serious about reclaiming market share. Offer the 5.7 for a modest price increase and offer it across all trim levels like they did with the 3.0 (sans Mojave in that case).

Another note, one thing that get's continuously lost in these conversations online...

Stellantis isn't losing money because they're not making every couch dwellers dreams of Hellcat Pacificas they'll only ever see on Forza Horizon come true.

They're losing money because they completely, 100%, abandoned the entire sub 40k segment, let alone the sub 20 segment.

Cherokees sold for them, Renegades sold for them, lame V6 Chargers sold, 300's... That kind of volume carried the company, then the Italians were like, let's put leather on the dash and charge 35% more for the same thing and launch a 110k Jeep too!

Source: Jeep Gladiator 392 V8 Confirmed, Wrangler 392 Continuing Indefinitely

On Thursday, at a media briefing Jeep CEO Bob Broderdorf said the 392 cubic inch V8 engine will be leveraged in the Jeep lineup followed by, “Wrangler and Gladiator fans, and Hemi fans in general, don’t worry.”
After this announcement, it’s unlikely any Jeep fans are resting, as some might be hyperventilating. Who’s ready for a four-door pickup with removable doors, roof, and a huge V8 engine? Prepare your bank accounts.
Broderdorf said “after being out at the Rubicon Trail, it’s clear just how much people love the roar of the 392.” It’s worth noting, people traverse the Rubicon Trail at slow speeds, which means no engines are roaring.
“The 6.4-liter Hemi V8 will have a home at Jeep,” Broderdorf said.
Amazing but hopefully not 100k ! 🙏🏼

One reason I, and perhaps others, bought, was because it WAS Wrangler-based.
If it's going to be based on anything else, such as the 2500 - then what the hell - it's just a big-ass truck with a Jeep name on it. It loses personality and becomes more like GM pickup vs. a Chevrolet pickup. Why bother?

Does FCA really need another 2500-type truck?

Not sure this was discussed in the 18 pages of leaf springs vs hood latches, but cost aside, the biggest issue with the 392 is range.
They have the same 21.5 gal tank, with the same low fuel warning with 4 gal left. That means most people can’t go more than 180 miles between fill ups. There’s some aftermarket aux tanks, but that’s not really the answer is it.

I bought it because it rode nicer than the Wrangler lol.

Personally, had no interest in it's truck capability at all personally.

Jeep is 100%, fully aware, how many of it's products see real use, and how many people are actually just buying a lifestyle, or an entry to a social club.

I bought mine (3 times now) because it was a SMALL truck and with the reliability of a Jeep, abilities of a Jeep, 3rd party products, the ability to plow snow in a small area due to the short and narrow wheelbase and I really missed our 90 Camaro T-top. I tow, I camp in it and I haul stuff, but I sold the Silverado because it was too bloody fat and big and took a parking lot to turn it around in.

There isn't another truck that matches all of reasons I bought this. I know, I'm a really really small minority.

It's a valid point.

Also valid ........ is the placement of the weight.
The 4xe weight is low center. It actually improves stability and ride. (that's been brought up in a number of videos by long-time Jeep people on youtube as well as other articles)

Payload, well.......

*SNIP*

If you figure a V8's extra weight, the required transfer case and transmission, you'll be taking away what, about 600 pounds from payload - without other modifications?
Sure, but they can also play around with the total payload too if they're moving the heavier motor in. They've continually crept up in payload on the Max Tows for the past few years very quietly without any significant changes.

Amen. I've been saying this for years. We would have bought a Cherokee instead of the Bronco Sport for her (she really liked the styling) but it was an overpriced turd given its competition in the segment. The fact Stellysler let the SUV brand carry on without any decent SUVs in the hottest segment of that market was beyond absurd.

Maybe @PuddleJumper was onto something about the shit they were smoking.

What was the starting payload for a base max tow vs. 2023 and then today?
Since it varies so widely based on the individual truck, it's hard to nail down unless you have the specs from each year for the base version of the max tow.
The difference between say, 2023 and 2025 may be the cooling - the new grill design was a big change
the others haven't really gained.

Tree farmer now. Retired first responder.
I bought my JT because of it's solid front axle in a world of IFS.
Also because I never bought a Scrambler or Commanche and wished that I had.
& a retirement gift to myself.

I needed another truck like a hole in my head.

I don't really care if the new body style has a wrangler style cab.

The convertible part used to be fun for me with my other Jeeps. But with skin cancer now, I just don't care. Had my JT Mojave for over 4 years now and the top or doors has never been off of it.

I still have a YJ and we are still cleaning sand and dust out of it 30 years later. A few offroad club trips to the desert with the top off... and that dust is now part of the Jeep.

@ShadowsPapa -- I asked an AI search (Grok) about the payload and towing because my memory on the exacts was failing me on the specifics.

Bottom line is it says that Max Tow was effectively the same physical equipment year over year but the rating increased. Take that for what you will.

Our old YJ flexed pretty damn good for being SPRUNG UNDER leaf springs…..We had ford shock towers, and 1” body lift to help with ’stuff’

I’ve seen many guys with Tacoma solid axle swaps that ran sprung over …and those things flexed like crazy!!!

Besides…. Who cares about suspension travel when you’ve got lockers. 😆
i had ford towers too and a rear angled shock bar i made with lockers front and rear in yota axles
