Bet it wasn't because of the axle being under or over the springs as much as which springs or if there were spacers involved. The forces are the same whether the rear of the axle is pulling down or the front of it pulling up, all else being equal. It will depend a lot on the spring pack and how it's built. But if you take a single leaf.............Our old YJ flexed pretty damn good for being SPRUNG UNDER leaf springs…..We had ford shock towers, and 1” body lift to help with ’stuff’
I’ve seen many guys with Tacoma solid axle swaps that ran sprung over …and those things flexed like crazy!!!
