First time Jeep Gladiator owner. I have a 2025, can I simply replace the main battery or do I have to bring it somewhere because some type of programming must be done when I change it?

No programming needed.
HOWEVER -

Do an IBS reset (the intelligent battery sensor)
CHARGE a new battery BEFORE installing it.
Beware that the system is still hot - powered, even with the main battery out!

So do not let either cable touch ANYTHING when you swap the main battery.

I'm curious as to why a new Jeep would need a new battery, though........
Only replace it with an AGM battery if you are replacing just the one - never "mix" battery types in a vehicle with multiple batteries.

Look at the weight of the battery. Heavy is good. I like Odyssey

What’s the general consensus about lithium batteries? Like a set of main and aux batteries that have the exact numbers needed compared with AGM or even wet batteries? The lithium main battery will probably weigh less than an AGM aux sized battery. Plus most have 8 year warranty, a couple have 11 years! Like Dakota.

Fine except in hot or cold climates.
In extreme heat, I wonder about thermal runaway............... and that aux battery is down there closer to the cats. There's a whole lot of thermal shielding down there, but how hot does that battery get on a long drive in 100 degree heat?

I’m now looking into removal of the aux battery, especially if I go lithium. For the dealers price of two off the shelves AGM OEM batteries I can get a very nice single Dakota lithium battery.

I'd never buy batteries from the dealership anyway - converting or not, keeping the aux battery or not. That's one of the biggest gouges of any.

IF I was doing what you are thinking - I'd get the largest capacity I could, to at least match the capacity of the two together (helps handle the parasitic load if it's sitting any length of time)

That’s exactly what I’m thinking, to get the biggest capacity lithium battery to replace both at the same combined amp/hrs or ? Do I compare?

From what I have seen, the lithium batteries have on board electronics that gateway between the battery and the vehicle charging to regulate the lithium battery charging. Far as the vehicle is concern, it is just charging a normal battery.

This - ^^^ What he said.
It won't handle lithium batteries unless they have their own circuit. So you need lithium batteries meant to replace AGM batteries.

"Ideally" you'd want to get the same combined capacity to handle the parasitic loads, but the lithium being what it is, should handle it better anyway.
Me, I'd do the math and try to get one that equaled the combined capacity.

Install a new H7 AGM Battery, disconnect neg aux battery cable tape it off and call it done!! You’ll no longer have trouble.

Use the button to shut off ESS and don’t worry if you forget your new battery can take ot!!

Go Jeep!!!

Don't forget fuse F42.
Can't say you'll no longer have trouble if the main battery goes bad......... you you have removed " a potential added point of failure".
