Forgive me if I didnt check and its been answered. But is the Hybrid Powertrain going to be better over the 3.6 powertrain? And if it is, what is the risk as this is a new powertrain first gen so maybe issues or doesnt matter as the 3.6 still has issues? Though I thought most things were fixed by 2023 model years....etc.

I guess question is should I switch my 3.6L for the Hybrid. - I plan to keep this Jeep Truck till I die, not saying I wont buy new ones, but I like this model and want this to be my cool fun truck that I keep for 50 plus years....etc.

Due to CEO changes, political regulation changes and lack of sales. I highly doubt there will be a PHEV Gladiator. And I'm ok with that. With the unofficial announcement of the 392 coming to the Gladiator and Stellantis in general shifting back to V8's. I don't see them investing in hybrids as much.

I swapped my 3.6 JT for a 4xe JL. Way better powertrain. More power, commute is covered by electricity (and mine is free), same torque as a 392 down lower, and quiet off roading. They said it was coming for next year, and that remains to be seen as Stellantis continues to flounder in a changing world. 4xes make up about 1/2 of Wrangler sales currently, so those saying it's a weak selling powertrain are blowing smoke.

Additionally, the 3.6 is more problem prone. I get everyone will probably try to say the recalls make the 4xe a bigger issue, but aside from the first couple years of it, they've been problem free for most folks. The 3.6 just seems engineered poorly. I've had 4 of them, and each one had a problem, anecdotally. I've got two 4xe systems in the driveway with a collective 80k miles between them, nothing but routine maintenance and a software flash for the recall.

If they didnt force the 4Xe, I wonder what the true sales numbers would be.

No one is forcing anyone to buy the 4xe lol
I guess force was the wrong word. Not giving much options on the lot. Its like when the JL first came out and they started offering the e-torque 2.0L. 95% of the JL's on the lot were the 2.0L. Not because people wanted them. Its what Jeep wanted you to buy. Its the same situation for the 4Xe. 90% of JL's and Grand Cherokee's on the lot are 4Xe. Not because its what people want. Its what Jeep wants you to buy. If they pushed the diesel like they have the 4Xe. There would be a TON more diesel JL/JT's out there.

They can't keep the 4xe models on the lot here, while the normal ones sit until they are discounted. It turns out people just really, really like hybrids these days.

And Americans have never been diesel fans like the rest of the world. The German brands all struggled to sell diesels here, the baby duramax sold just as poorly as the ecodiesel. Every brand sells small diesels everywhere else but here, and it's not because of some conspiracy, people just don't want them.

Ive had 4 since 2012 with the 3.6 and other than a pinhole leak in a radiator, I havnt had any issues. Its seems like a pretty good motor if quality control did their job checking engine components before assembly.

That's strange because I rarely see 4xe wranglers in southern Ohio but I also dont see much excitement about the 4xe on this forum. Then again, Ohio hasn't had an influx of people fleeing California Washington and Oregon like Idaho has.

Iam sure the 4xe is cool but I kind of look at the 4xe and the 2.0t the way I look at old tj's with 4 cylinders, even though the modern engines are way better. I just see them as powerplants that were made because of excessive regulation and it just doesn't interest me as a car/jeep enthusiast.

I think its ignorance is what sells them. They hear "better fuel milage" and "Tax rebate". Thats what sells them. The majority of the people I've talked to that own them have charged them once or twice.

As for diesels, I believe its a weird government conspiracy thing. Also not every gas station has diesel, and if they do its just the outer pumps. I think diesel is far superior over gasoline. A diesel hybrid would be awesome combo.

Enthusiasts are like 5% of the customer base for auto makers. The vast majority of drivers don't even know what engine is in their car, but they definitely care about how much they spend on fuel.

Not trying to start an argument, but since I actually have no clue.....how many of those sales are from places that have little to no ability to sell a version OTHER than the 4xe?

First off, we have four (4) Pentastar 3.6 engines in the Family. Two are of the original 3.6's, and two are the PUG'S. They are great engines, of which we have not had any major problems with them. I have not owned a 4XE, nor will I ever own one. Two of my neighbors have them in their Wranglers. They both have spent more time in the Dealers service Department, verses at home in their own garage. Ongoing electrical problems, plus a lack of back up parts support. They have also been told by their Dealer, that the factory has told owners not to put them inside their garage. Because they are subject to fires. Plus, the Dealer that I use is one of the largest in the Phoenix area. They have told me that their tech's would prefer not to work on them. Many of the Dealer lots have many on hand and have a hard time finding interested buyers. So, if you purchase one, GOOD LUCK.
