Let me restate that. He save $40k in taxes in Tennessee compared to California tax's.
But he's only saving that tax money because his pension is 10x what it would have been if he worked his career in Tennessee. Locally we put $24/hr in our retirement. Those cheap states it's usually $3-4/per hour. You can't save $40k/year retired in taxes when your pension only pays you $30k/year.

If he's saving that much in taxes, he's pulling in close to $500,000 a year and has expensive property. The difference in tax rates between the two states isn't that big.
Tennessee is 0% and Cali goes up to about 13% progressively.

You’d pay about $50k on $500k in Cali.

And yet Ford and others are coming out with new EVs, including EV trucks.......... knowing very well what the climate is out there.
Ford can do it in KY - new pickup coming out in 27.
Actually, Ford and GM have recently announced that they are also either delaying or cutting EV production.

Well alot of people are watching videos about the slate truck, VW ID, Rivian and Scout to name a few EV vehicles. I think there are alot of EV enthusiasts and even myself included are excited about new tech and new EV models.
I think EV enthusiasts overlap more with tech enthusiast than car enthusiast. And they don't see PHEVs as true EVs. So there's a gap. And that's where the 4xes fall. They keep company with the RAV4 Prime, Prius Prime, some BMWs and so on

I have no sympathy for people making $400k and whining about taxes. Especially ones cashing a government check every month.

The problem is there IS no real off road EV available. They are all independent front and rear suspension on air bags. The only way they have the ground clearance to try and go off road is to inflate the bags all the way making for 0 downtravel, a harsh ride, and putting all the joints at a near bind at the worst possible time when it's going to see the harshest terrain and highest loads. That is why the 4xe is the best selling wrangler, it's the only off road option with any EV capabilities.

I doubt he's making $400k retired. Likely a combination of the income tax savings and the ridiculously high property taxes on bay area properties. Last I looked into it our pension was significantly better than the police union and after 40 years of service I won't quite see half that.

He deserve every penny in retirement. You go 30 year chasing down the bad guy and getting shot at you would deserve it to.

At 30 years of service a retired officer will get 81% of his final salary. The average police chief salary in the bay area is $200k/year. Unless he's drawing 3 pensions he's not making $400k (Google is a hell of a resource and the reason I'm so open about our wages. I know some think it's taboo, but anyone can go to unionpayscales.com and see wages, benefits, etc for anywhere in the country)

While announcing new ev products ......makes sense. Likely cutting the old tech and coming out with new platforms. Ford just announced the new ev truck last month.

Stellantis, Ford, and GM have all said that EV production is delayed or being cut due to a decrease in demand, higher costs, and overall profitability issues. I don't follow Ford and GM as closely as I do Stellantis, but all three have been in the news cycle.

I just looked at the Ford truck that you were talking about for 2027, and now Ford is saying it's been pushed back to 2028. Ram has done the same thing. They keep pushing back the release dates.

Just pointing out there's a lot of reasons to be here even if you disagree with the politics, taxation, prices, etc.
True. I disagree with the politics, taxation, and prices here in East Tennessee but love living here just the same. That said, I should probably clarify that I am a California transplant and also disagreed with those same things while there.

Turns out I just don't like drama and/or paying for things, regardless of where I live.

Yeah, about 2 weeks after it was announced. That's funny if it wasn't so unfunny.
Maybe ford made the announcement and then realized - they either couldn't actually make it by then with the specs they said, or, they found no real interest.
Who knows.
Funny stuff - didn't know.

After following their roll out of the Bronco I wouldn't count on even a model year until they start delivering.

They are all coming to terms with losing government subsidies. Ford, GM, and Stellantis have all said they are losing billions on EVs. They are canceling and/or downsizing battery plants, canceling/delaying EV models, and laying off workers in the EV divisions. This has all been pretty heavy in the news cycle over the last few months.
