I have 5800 miles on my Gladiator. For the first time ever, during an install of KC Hilites FlexEra 4 lights, I had the hood up, ignition on, but the engine not running. There is a whining sound coming from what seems to be the top center of the engine. The lights are wired to the auxiliary switches, main lights to aux 1, and running lights to aux 3. I lifted the ground wire to the lights to be sure there was no return circuit, and made sure the auxiliary switches were off. The whine is still there. Is this sound normal? With the hood down and the windows up, the noise can't be heard.

Center forward towards the bottom of the engine is where the electric vacuum pump is located. With the ignition on but not running, it is probably priming the vacuum for the brake booster.

The sound is normal. It is the electronic throttle control.

My hearing is a bit non directional, but I will try to get a better location on the engine. Whatever it is, it doesn’t stop until I turn the ignition off.

Ah! Thank you! Top of the engine. Now I can sleep tonight and not stare at the ceiling.

Just let your wife outta the vehicle and promise to not spend too much more on your Jeep and I can guarantee you the whining will stop ;) ;) ;)

Working on setting my 2025 up for Flat Towing and winch install and experienced the same whining noise. Knowing all the nanny and electronic systems, I just ignored it and assumed it’s normal :CWL:

I am hearing the same thing with the windows down (but not up). I noticed that it changes in pitch while not moving and just turning the steering wheel. I'm guessing it is the steering pump?
