First Oil Change

Bought my first Jeep in July. When I bought it the guy said oil change every 3,000 miles. Today, the service guy said every 5,000. I know someone on this board knows the answer. How often?

I have 4 vehicles so I only change oil once a year, Gladiator only had 1300 miles on the first change Chrysler 300 had 5000 on the first. I use full synthetic in all 4, the other 2 vehicles were bought used.

I use the recommended 0-20 Pennzoil and factory filter
I tear off the top of the filter and date and mileage on the back .. keep all receipts
I was also keeping track in the jeep app but my data took a dump

I've owned it a year and 7 months
2023 I bought it with 22 miles on it
46K 8th oil change
( we took the new steed on a lot of road trips )

Clean the air filter (K&N ) ever other oil change
Cabin filter with each top swap

And a lot cheaper to follow the oil life monitor - cuts your oil change costs big-time.
And you don't have to mess with as much oil disposal. Here, I have to keep it somewhere until I'm ready to haul it to town.

I have to take card board and cans to the town transfer station every few weeks anyway so since they take oil to supplement the heat in the town garages I figure I'm helping cut the tax burden with my fleet, LOL (though I have been neglecting the use of some of my vehicles since I got the JT)
I do the oil around 5k ish in all my cars general on a night before I'm gonna in anyway

I want to add if you have a jeep account and the app you can add a service to your official record which can help with tracking your intervals. I do that and my own record in Fuelly.

Just a FYI, any self maintenance records you manually input in the MOPAR Owners Connect site for your vehicle are not visible to the dealership systems as an "official record". You can print it out as a log but the impetus is still on you to prove through actual receipts something was still done.

I looked into that, and a corn-furnace as a friend used to have. Cost and hassle - ended up with LP infrared and minisplit.
The minisplit is mostly for the AC to take the humidity out in the summer, cool it a bit, but it's too small for the 2 story shop building, plus, the infrared heater heats things and not the air - open the door, drive a car out, another in, and soon, that car is as warm as the one you took out. Tools, floor, things, nice and warm. You don't lose so much heat with an open door.

Oil is 78.00 and the filter 10.00 figured clean is clean and cheap is cheap so I have changed filters 56 times and oil 28 times and I got 140,500 miles .

Not to get off topic, but you may wish to reconsider spending $88 for oil and a filter in your Rubicon. Unless it is a diesel, 5 quarts of good oil and OEM filter shouldn't cost more than maybe $40. That is, unless you are living in northern Alaska or something.

Where are you getting it that cheap??
Minimum $37 for 5 quarts of ultra platinum on Amazon, then add a filter to the mix.
Maybe you are looking at Valvoline, which for some reason, is dirt cheap on Amazon.

I get it at Advance Auto Parts (not sure if you have those in your area) but they normally have the "build your own bundle" thing. You buy the 5 quart jug and get your choice of filter free (Fram, Mopar, whatever). I just looked and the Mobil 1 is $42, Pennzoil $40, Valvoline $39 and Fram $32.

Note: When I was checking the prices, I did find it odd that all of the 0W20 synthetics mentioned cost about $3-$5 less per jug when you buy the high mileage formula.

Unless it's AMSOIL or ROYAL PURPLE motor oil, the price range for brand name / API Certified / MS-6395 / SAE 0W-20 (including high-mileage products) is $24.28-$29.97 at Walmart.

For the oil filter, Mobil 1 EP M1C-456A is $11.97, FRAM ULTRA XG11665 is $10.97, and PUROLATOR MP LX11665 is $8.00 at Walmart. Let's hope that the PUROLATOR MP price stays right where it is for a long while.

For oil + filter, the range is $32.28-$41.94. This range drifted lower earlier this year, but Mobil 1 EP 0W-20 went back up to $29.97 after dropping for a short time to match the competition.

The Advance Auto Parts bundle is always interesting, but I prefer the no-frills pricing at Walmart. At Advance, Mobil 1 EP 0W-20 is $41.99 and the bundle includes any filter at no additional charge.

Pennzoil Ultra Platinum (5 Quart Jug) is $26.50 at WalMart. Just picked some up a few weeks ago.

If yall are paying more than $30 a jug for any mainstream synthetic yall gotta stop hitting the auto parts stores

That's where I usually get oil but haven't bought any there for a while.
For my Javelin, I can only find that oil online. No one stocks Biosyn oil around here.
