A PIT at 90mph is reckless in and of itself. The cop got lucky the JT went into the grass and not into oncoming traffic. That move at that speed there is no ability to direct where it'll go.
Lol, Arkansas, you dont run, they will f you up.

No, the cop knew exactly what he was doing. That's why he did it from the right rear not the left.its called a Tatical Vehicle Intervention for a reason, it's Tactical.
If you're dumb enough to run in Arkansas you will FAFO

Better to have it written off than get back a repiared vehicle with never ending issue from a police chase.
Agree to disagree. The insurance will never pay out 100% of the actual replacement cost including my mods and time. Sure the thief could still wreck it, use it as a battering ram, etc after a spike strip, but many times they'll just pull over and give up when the tires are flat. I'd much rather get my Jeep back with some brand new tires than have to buy and build another one. Recovering stolen vehicles by intentionally destroying them seems insane to me.

High speed pursuits are stupid,
in my opinion.

The main reason is the risk
to innocent bystanders
and to the law enforcement officers.

Secondly, most car chases probably involve
a stolen vehicle, outstanding warrants
or possession of drugs.
Those do not justify the risk insuant
in high speed pursuits.

Back in the bad old days
they hung horse thieves.
Not because horses were so valuable,
but because they were easily stolen.
It was the lack of respect
that got the horse thief hung.
I feel the same way about car thieves.
The death penalty would greatly reduce
car theft.

The moment I saw ARKANSAS I knew it would involve a PITT. Arkansas police would Pitt a J-walker...... i'm a big blue line supporter being the son of a thirty year, leo, but when it comes to arkansas, most police see everybody as a potential violator arkansas sees everybody as a potential target.....

I was a LEO in a western state (NV) for 25 years. There is definitely a different mindset out here versus those southern states concerning pursuits.

A pursuit was tightly controlled. A PIT maneuver was essentially forbidden, at least in the agencies I worked for.

Note to self. Never run from the ASP.

At 90mph? I don’t know anything about cops in Arkansas but reading these comments it seems like it’s an overzealous police force that needs to pump the brakes literally and figuratively.

ASP is no f'ing joke. I agree with the sentiments here that if you don't want to risk seeing the afterlife, don't steal peoples stuff. In 1996 I had a thief break into my house in TN and he was met with 2 .45 rounds center mass. I shed not one tear.

Due process is more of a suggestion these days anyways.
And yet - caught red-handed with the goods, video witness of all of the crimes committed on the road. What due process? That's for "they might not be guilty" or "there were circumstances unknown, crime not proven - so go to trial".

I'm amazed the Supreme Court still allows this. It's akin to shooting an unarmed fleeing suspect in the back. Hard to argue it's self defense or public safety when the Jeep will barely exceed western freeway speeds. They can call it what they want but how many videos are out there of the PITed vehicle hitting other vehicles? Pursuing officers hitting innocent people? Driving 90 is unsafe so we are going to drive a dozen plus vehicles 120+ to catch up and then cause a fatal accident... for safety?

Like the cell ph in the thieves pocket? Nothing is infallible, but better than nothing.
Only if it's an apple phone.

That's the kicker - there have to be Apple phones within range. Great for most areas, the cities and so on, but get out here where you don't have any reception most of the time, and there are few apple devices - and those that are here are way off the roadways, back in the trees.
I'm not saying they don't work or that it's not a good idea. If I was an Apple user, yeah, it's worth a shot and there's enough good stories out there to show it can work - recoveries thanks to air tag, but......... it's not a solution for all times or places.

I find it hilarious when everyone freaks out about how unsafe 90mph is on the freeway. The JT sees those speeds in the dirt often.
I find it hilarious when people try to compare open roads, desert speeds and so on with crowded highways in other states. Do 90 here and it's a death wish. Hills, curves, holes, and the TRAFFIC and trucks have no shame about pulling over into your lane even if their rear bumper isn't fully clear of your vehicle, then, they ride up and down the hills of I80 shoulder-to-shoulder. Try to squeeze in, they literally play games here. I've seen a lot of people complain of the trucks in this area, and our highways and hills - not to mention "Iowa drivers". I even heard about "Iowa drivers" from a couple at the Jeep event from Ohio - they griped about drivers here cutting you off - and if you are going a great speed, someone will die here.

why do people who have never been here keep bringing up "western freeway speeds". Come here and try it.

Get out of those western states and see what it's like in other places.

Here, 90 is a loss of license, automatic, and traffic simply won't allow for such speeds. It's totally unsafe HERE as with many other states.
Stop comparing where you live and basing all of this on "western highway speeds".

What MPG does a JT get at +90 MPH
about 7-8. with a potential for 19 gallons in the tank, you really going to let a stolen vehicle run for 133 miles at those speeds?
