I changed to Genesis dual battery set up the first week when the truck was new. Never had any problems. Just kept the terminals clean

Spent some time under the hood this weekend, I think there's a big sticker pointing out the two batteries. I've got some doohickey under the dash that keeps my auto stop/start disabled. Not sure if that'll prolong the battery or eventual issues, but I'm quite happy with how it works.

All it will do is keep ESS from annoying you. Nothing else.

What is this doohickey you speak of? Something other than a Tazer?

Tip!

Once you get your Jeep batteries functioning normally, monitor your ESS page in front of the steering wheel. It will give you an indication of your battery status. Every now and then look at this page at engine start. It would be nice to see Stop Start Ready soon after engine warm up. If it says Not Ready Battery charging, for longer periods of time, you need to change your driving habits and or put an AGM battery charger on it.

Long before you got the ESS warning light you could have seen Battery Charging msg on most of the time.

If you only came here sooner, like when the ESS warning light came on, we could have saved you some grief.
When my aux battery went bad, I didn't get any warning lights. The remote start not working was my 1st warning. The occasional problem with the engine starting was another warning. And a few other annoying electrical warnings that I didn't think much of. BUT never did I get a dash warning light.

My question for Jeep is, if the aux battery causes so many issues and doesn't last that long, why not put it in a place where it was easily accessible so we can change it out easy.

Yes, in fact one is sold by a forum sponsor. No one can tell it's even there. About $100 or so if I recall correctly. Auto start stop eliminator is one brand

I to have removed the aux battery and rerouted the cable to the main battery. The main battery was bad so I replaced the H6 with a H7 and have had no issues at all. Even with the Gladly sitting for well over a month after surgery.

Too easy and ruins the purpose of demanding to have ESS.

Where do you suggest it go in that engine bay?

Now that's a loaded question. You know I have no clue. That's a question for all the other way smarter people than me on this forum. (He knows I'm not being sarcastic)

It just sucks to have such a pain in the ass part that even I can change out if it were in a more accessible place.

Absolutely, and I only asked because I can't think - off the top of my head - of another place that wouldn't interfere with other things.
One reason I don't like the Genesis, among the stupid cost for just the tray alone - is that it really messes up the engine bay and is in the way for so many things.
I struggled to try to get my snow plow stuff - a whole lot smaller, 6 relays, the control box, massive cables and fuse, in place so it would not interfere with any service a dealer may do, and things simply unbolted and moved out of the way. Even that was a thinker - I pondered on placement of the parts for quite a while before finally deciding, and even then, I did it better/differently on my 25 than I did on my 22.

One has to consider air flow under the hood, heat soaking the battery, and placement to reduce the size of the cables involved.

so, really, I'm agreeing. Just wondering if there's a solution that meets all of my criteria - neat, doesn't cover other parts up, isn't in the way, won't run the battery HOTTER than it already does, and doesn't mean a lot of longer, larger cables. Voltage drop across the cables is a big consideration on parallel systems.

AND let's fit a Hemi in there!

25 years ago Buick (and I expect other GM) put batteries under the back seat of their sedans, and it wasn’t that hard to pop the back seat bottom loose. They’d definitely be cooler.

Would be cooler and works better with AGM, but pre-AGM, corrosion problems existed.

But - not sure I want to give up under seat storage for something I may access every 3 years, and even at that, going through the rear of the fender liner with the wheels turned hard left isn't really that difficult to get to the current aux battery.
