So winter driving leave something to be desired?

Not really. It's like driving with any other MT tire. It's the same as the Toyo MT's, Cooper MT's, General MT's that I have used in the past.

I’m sold on Mickey Thomson Baja Boss. I know you mentioned MT’s, which I’m sure are amazing, but I’m on my second set of the A/T’s for a reason. They’re amazing off road on extreme terrain, are quiet, and wear well.

I've never run the mickeys, but unless they are magic compared to every other AT I've ever run I'll pass. Places like moab or even the granite on the rubicon will convince you that any aired down tire is great. Get them in mud, deep snow, or even deep sand and it's instant disappointment. Racing slicks work great in moab, that doesn't make them a good off road tire. If that's the terrain you mostly wheel then ATs are great and definitely last longer on the road. We encounter way to much mud just getting to and from our property to run ATs.

I had amazing luck with them on sand, but they had to be down to 10psi. What makes those tires stand out to me isn’t the offroad stuff though. It’s how well they work on snowy and icy roads. And how quiet they are for a large tire.

Yes, and I still bet they turn into slicks at the 1st sign of mud. How many thousands of people have you seen claim KO2s are great? And in my experience they are the worst "off road" tires I've ever run. Are they better than LT road tires...barely. I'll take a little more road noise (not like the Jeep is quiet at freeway speeds even without tire noise) and less tread life over getting stuck in the mud, winching, digging, etc. every day. The Baja boss look like they'd do better than the KO2, but still far worse than any MT on the market.

It’s the unfortunate reality of tires, you can’t check all the boxes. They do great as an aggressive at, they have a soft silica compound and good siping which makes snow performance quite good. There are so many different kinds of snow out there depending on location, temp, elevation etc that 1 tire can work great in 1 type of snow but not another. 1 type you want something to grab on and pack in with snow, another you want it to eject similar to mud. The Baja’s work great out here in the NE and I think they are arguably the best you’ll find for our climate. I certainly wish they’d expand their sizes to a 38/39. One downside of them is they are on the heavy side in basically every size.

Ice is the one terrain where MTs really suck, but we don't get much of that in the south west. If I were up north I'd probably give up some mud performance for the traction on icy roads. I've never been stuck in the ice, mud and deep snow are about the only times I've had to winch for self recovery so I choose the tires that are most likely to minimize that. But arguing that MTs are better for everyone, but for me ATs have always let me down.

Ko2’s are crap. But Baja boss at’s do not turn into slicks on mud. They’re quite capable. They’re not MTs, but they’re close. Definitely a hybrid tire. I’ve wheeled them in the rain and not had issues.

If they come out with 38’s, I’ll sell my 5 Baja boss MTs with only 6k miles on them.
