I bought a Badlands Apex 12,000 lb winch. Noticed that it comes with 2 gauge power cables. I'm used to seeing the heavier 2/0 gauge cable. My PW had the bigger cable. Has anyone have issues with the smaller 2 gauge cable? Thinking on changing to the 2/0 cable when I install the winch.

If you follow instructions it will be fine, but for heavy duty use, or not following cool down... going heavier sure is smarter

Wire gauge depends on length of run due to a combination of total current and the ever increasing resistance over distance.

The winch wires are plenty at 2 gauge as it’s not a long run of wire.

Harbor Freight sells the 2/0 wires in 6’ lengths. It’s fairly good wire for the price. I’ve used it for a battery pack thing. 600Ah to 3k inverter. Good flex to it as well. It doesn’t hurt to go bigger gauge.
