I'm in Wisconsin. Was thinking of buying my Gladiator from Idaho and then making a fun road trip out of it driving home. Trouble is how do you break a motor in and then drive it home 1500 miles?

Good point. Forgot about breaking it in. Don't do any hardcore trailstrai the first couple hundred miles? I am going to put about 250 miles before going fishing. Wonder if that is enough?

yeah i have no idea. I've read you're still supposed to vary engine rpm and load for first 500 miles with light amounts of brisk acceleration and off throttle to create max vacuum to help seal the rings.

I've also heard, modern engines are pretty much good to go.

I've also heard if you baby an engine on break in, it'll never have good compression........

Flip a coin?

Before we get out there we'll have to find out. The Idaho thing is making sense right now. That's the only way to get one, let alone for good price.

Is everyone in the "greater idaho area" set on going there to get one? I have emailed local dealers but I don't know if I want to replicate that effort with a bunch of more dealers in the Boise area...I guess what I'm saying is, can I wait to find out the price before putting in the work, or do I have to start doing that now?

Yep. Exactly. Then we find out it is 50K right? Wasted effort. Or, it takes 9 months, which means the glut could happen right as yours is being delivered, and your local dealer has one right down the street and here we are visiting beautiful downtown Boise. I have no idea. Under invoice is very good though.

On that other thing, the brakes need to be cared for too. If they don't seal, you can eat em up on a long down hill is what I heard.

There really are only two dealers that would be worth looking at Dennis Dillon and Peterson. I have talked with Kent at Peterson and he is doing 8% below invoice for the JT. Now just waiting on the price to see what 8% below really means.

Thanks idjeep! Going to find a couple of contacts and then compare and buy. With 8% below invoice, i might be able to buy one sooner.

How do you plan on breaking the engine in?

We plan on making it a vacation with multiple stops in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa and then back down towards SC. There will be plenty of stop and go and slower speeds.

From JL Manuel. Also the Rams seem to have issues with seating brake pads. I suggest following those directions as well.

ENGINE BREAK-IN RECOMMENDATIONS A long break-in period is not required for the engine and drivetrain (transmission and axle) in your vehicle. Drive moderately during the first 300 miles (500 km). After the initial 60 miles (100 km), speeds up to 50 or 55 mph (80 or 90 km/h) are desirable. While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration within the limits of local traffic laws contributes to a good break-in. Wide-open throttle acceleration in low gear can be detrimental and should be avoided. The engine oil installed in the engine at the factory is a high-quality energy conserving type lubricant. Oil changes should be consistent with anticipated climate conditions under which vehicle operations will occur. For the recommended viscosity and quality grades, refer to “Dealer Service” in “Servicing And Maintenance”.

When these dealers say a percent off the jt, would that be any trim? Or just the rubicon?. Any idea how those dealers do the 5-8% off invoice currently work that with the jl trims?
