I love Lake Speed, but I was disappointed that he chose a click bait title, 'STOP Buying Diesel Fuel Additives'. He knows better. We knew 20+ years ago that running TC-W3 2-stroke oil wasn't recommended in Common Rail diesels, so he's not telling us anything new. It's good to revisit old information, so no complaints there. He needs to realize that premium diesel isn't easy to find for everyone, which is why fuel additives are offered.

We've seen factory fuel injectors and CP4 pumps last 900,000 miles when fuel additives are religiously used. While I can appreciate a lab perspective using data, I'm equally interested in real-world scenarios. The highest mileage EcoDiesel (605,000+ miles) religiously uses fuel additives.

His first video was spot-on and very helpful!

Is there a 605k mile ecodiesel Gladiator or is that a Ram?

Just surprised if somebody put that many miles on a diesel Gladiator already!

I HAVE to add biocide to my diesel fuel, or my engine won't run very long.
Black mold grows everywhere down here along the gulf coast.
It coats my fuel cans, vehicles, shed & siding.
It even infiltrates the low sulfur fuel, clogging filters & fuel lines & will clog check valves & suction screens.
Never had to add chemicals to fuel before the low sulfur fuel mandate.
In prior years, one could choose from #1 Diesel, #2 Diesel, & perhaps #3, but I have never seen #3 for sale. #3 & 4 may be for off-road or marine fuel.
I specifically buy fuel WITH additives that keep these higher performing engines happy.
I also buy specific oils with specific additives to keep the internal ecosystem happy while consuming less fuel.
I have been following Lake Speed for almost a year now, as his results are data driven.
My results mostly derive from my opinion.
My experience has shaped my current opinion, & may differ.
New data can change opinions, & I am always reading new data & making corrections.

My only current Diesel engine resides in a tractor & lacks the tier 4 emission mandates.
I refuse to own a Diesel engine with EGR, DPF or SCR with DEF.
DEF is good for tired, calloused feet!:)
Really softens em up for faster healing.

After I watched this video I searched 500 hundred mile radius, NO Premium.

That's exactly my point. There are regional Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep dealerships that will recommend a diesel fuel additive due to high levels of asphaltenes in the fuel. R99 (Renewable Diesel) is an awesome fuel and doesn't require fuel additives, but that's very rare to find nationally.
