was the upgrade worth the money it took? I Am sure it was better but we are talking about a bar with a very small area that is being used like a box. I was going to modify the bar and install a pair of 6x9's but not sure that will function as well as they would in a bigger box. plus its behind the head which throws off the sound from front. I am installing a 4 channel amp soon so improvements to dash speakers also coming.

i just dont want to waste money or tear up factory parts for no gain

I installed 6-1/2 inch speakers. A little cutting involved but did make a big difference.

Added Focal 6.5 components with sound deadening in the soundbar. Used the same components up front and powered with a 4 channel amp. Also put 2 subwoofers under the rear seat and amplified. Lots of work, but 1000% worth it. HUGE improvement in sound, no comparison to the premium factory sound system.

The speaker adapters are made by Stinger and are not specific to the focal speakers. They come in a kit with adapters for the 6.5 and tweeters like I did, but also includes a plate for 6x9 speakers and replacement speaker grills.

There are other similar options made by other companies, but I chose these as the grills maintain a factory appearance.

Factory Alpine system here. I just swapped in better speakers of the stock size. Mild improvement in the sound bar, big improvement in the front dash. The 3.5" speakers alone seem to matter the most. The stock Alpine 4" mid/bass speakers aren't all that bad at stock Alpine amp power levels. Maybe the non-Alpine factory stock speakers are worse and more in need of an upgrade. And as you say the overhead bar is mostly just fill for anyone in the front seats.

Assuming you have an amp, you can start with the 3.5" on the dash and see what you think. Then do the 3.5" overhead for a little better. Then the 4" overhead but there probably won't be much improvement. I wouldn't bother with the knee speakers unless you will be putting in something larger. Unless you have the stock non-Alpine speakers, in which case it may be worth upgrading everything just for power handling.

If you dont have a sub, the kicker 51hs10 under seat sub is probably the best bang for the buck upgrade.
Dont get a cheap amazon one, unless it has the same class amp inside it. The cheap ones get real hot and sound isnt as good.

I threw in some pro grade mids and highs in the roll bar and dash and I could notice a difference with them powered by the stock unit before I even got the amplifier in. I also added a single 8” sub behind the rear seat in a custom enclosure so that I didn’t lose the under seat storage.
I also have my balance/fade set 2 clicks further forward to balance out the sound more evenly.
I would say you sound quality is going to highly depend on what grade equipment you toss in and how well you tune that equipment.

i did the mb quartz 6x9. lost all bass but gained more volume on highs.

i changed the dash speakers, the sound bar speakers, and added two 10" subs. ill add my four channel amp when i replace my head unit. Im happy with what i have, but it could be more. I cant justify a head unit replacement yet.

I did Trail Seven's Kicker upgrade to the over head speakers and dash speakers. It definitely sounds crisp and crystal clear but has little to no bass so I added a cheap under seat bass box. I don't think it's much louder either. I would definitely need an amp to get what I was expecting.

The sound bar changed after 2024+ to 3.5”, 4”, and a port in each basket.

For me it absolutely was worth it. The sound quality is night and day. And mine look OEM premium to me. I have the same Alpines that @Jeepmonster pictured. I put matching alpine tweeters in the dash. The knee kick speakers are still Oem.
