Please make sure to post up on your progress! Curious to see what you come up with. Trust, me, I know all about doing something and then doing it again, and again ;)
Two car, Dan is a Humble Hobo who built an awesome front bumper with removable wings but decided later to go stubby his built rear bumper…..picture great bumper like no other , maybe with rollers on bottom to roll instead of drag , probably a rear winch stuck up high and tight and he will have a rated rear hitch that is the struggle he has. Remember this guy has a four foot chicken in his yard it will be spectacular , no doubt!…….Jack

I like the Savvy stuff, and it’s on this list, but I’m not crazy about the bed protection. This one from cavfab doesn’t look bad. But I’m open to suggestions. That’s the reason for this thread. Thanks!

At what point do you stop calling it a "bumper" and just say it's an aluminum i-beam ?

I'm probably going to go with the Rockhard4x4 rear bumper but I like big butts.

Careful. The moderators are going to move this to the rhinocerosusus section of the forum. šŸ¦
LOL, I fell for the stinger fad pretty bad with that one. It was second hand and pretty cheap. I couldn't say no. One of these days I'm going to cut the stinger off and just run the main bumper.

Gladys is at least 4’ 3ā€. :). Yes. My wife named it that.

I love the idea of wheels like on a wheelie bar. And I do think it’ll be setup for a rear winch if I make one. But it’ll need to be stout as hell for that, and I’m not sure I’ve got the welding skills.

This might be of interest…Found this one on FB. Hand made, I asked him for some more pics, showing the receiver hitch mounted to the bumper…pretty Toyota’ish, but clean and high side protection on the bed rear sides, plus the receiver looks strong.

I like the wheels idea in the rear bumper. If that can be incorporated along with recovery and tow hitch attachment that would be awesome. Maybe some of those long steel rollers they put on the back of trailers sometimes. As long as it doesn’t majorly hinder departure angle. Recessed into the bumper with maybe 1/4-1/2ā€ of contact depth across maybe a couple 12ā€ rollers.

That might be my favorite yet. Thanks. All these ideas are going towards whatever it becomes. Love this thread.

Jeep Gladiator Trying to Decide on Rear Bumper IMG_20200918_141907481~2

Best picture I have of the one I made.
Started out with heavy wall 2x4 box. Used 3/4" by 2 1/2" solid to make the shackle mounts. I pierced both through the box and used them to mount the bumper to the frame rails. Four 3/4" bolts per side. I notched the receiver half way up into the box then added the chain mount to help.
I pie cut the ends part ways through and pushed them back together to get the angled ends.

Nice job. Great fit.

Was a fun project. I started to make a front one with a recessed winch mount, using 4x6 box. Ended up selling the CJ5 before I got it all finished.
