Wait till people learn Ford patented a "feature" that calls the police when you speed. Yup, those remote kill switches are HERE and people will just complain rather than actually do something about it.

Watch there be another "cash for clunkers buyback" to remove those vehicles that still give the driver full control.

I'll NEVER sell my 2002 wrx. 5 speed, no TC or nannies. And the abs is so basic you can pull the fuse and have ZERO issues, if you know how to drive.

Kids these days will have nothing, own nothing, pay monthly for EVERYTHING, and be told "BuT iT's FoR yOuR sAfEtY...."

While my wife was driving her brand new Hyundai Kona, just getting used to the new features, etc a coffee cup icon popped up which was suggesting she might want to stop, take a break as she was driving as if sleepy.

That's a common thing on most new vehicles. It's every so many hours to tell you to take a break from the hyper focus of driving.

Most people can't remember their high beams are on, and they think a coffee icon will get noticed.

Every single time the tin foil hat crowd comes out talking about how they'll never ever give up their 1966 points ignition Corvair because it can't be controlled I say the same thing...

They'll just shoot you.

The government is putting people in jail for touching slimy water that embarrasses them. They jailed people for having dinners, mowing their lawns, and going to church.

If you have the only car running up and down the road after they hit their little kill button... If all your apocalypse dreams come true, and you're just out there in your gasifier powered points ignition death machine like, whooo hooo can't stop me!

They'll just shoot you.

Folks, I work for a HUGE Global Telecom company and have been involved in Auto Telematics and IoT for decades working on this since it's humble beginnings in the 90s. Because of this I have a lot of exposure and experience in this sector. SO let me sum it up.

The sky is not falling. The features being discussed have been active for years, some for decades. GM has been able to disable your vehicle remotely for a long time, so have many other OEMs. Relax, there are a LOT of folks working on this stuff and intrusions against customer/drivers are a HUGE no-no and massive potential liabilities so more lawyers than engineers looking into this and deciding what is Ok and what is not.

Ah yes, the ole, it'll only be used on the bad guys line 🙄

Seat belts will only ever be a secondary stop...

Fisa will never be used against Americans...

Flock camera's being used to check out Tinder dates would be immoral...

If the tech exists, the tech will be abused. And if 95% of the world buys into it, they'll criminalize the 5% who don't.

Spoke to a buddy at the CIA (retired) that has the best answer yet. The "government" has had access to EVERYTHING you do and say for decades. it has MASSIVE amounts of data and capabilities on everyone in the country, including the ones that THINK they are off-grid.

So the issue is not what they have or what they can do, that ship has long ago sailed. It is WHY would they be interested in YOU? And the trick is NOT to do something that will get their eyeballs fixated on you.

Half the United States already allows speed and red light cameras.

And on a final note, all of this is necessary for the deployment of technologies like "Self Driving Cars". And I know some will undoubtedly say it is unneeded.... And I just keep trying to figure out if they will still think that when an 85 year old senile driver or some drunk t-bones their kids and kills them.

If you don't have anything to hide you'll just let them search without a warrant, tell you when and where you can go, and ban you from work or even the public parks, beaches, etc over a flu.... what could go wrong?
