I have been shopping used Gladiators (Mojave and Rubicon), looking for sub 40k mile jeeps.

I am finding most dealers want $40k+ for these trucks, but I can go buy a brand new one for $46k. Their argument is these trucks had a $60k+ sticker, but I imagine they were sold with the same deep discounts we are currently seeing, and I can't imagine they are paying anywhere near $40k resale for a truck with zero warranty remaining.

Is the market still this broken? I know COVID screwed everything up, have the dealers just gotten to used to clearing crazy margins?

I am shopping nearly nationwide, if I can get a cheap ticket there and drive home in a.day or so, it is in the running.

Used Wranglers and wrangler based vehicles have always been like that. A good deal on new often makes more sense. It's the only vehicle I’ve never bought used and I’ve had four. I often buy 1-2 yr old used.

There are a bunch widely available for sub-40 here in Alaska on, weirdly enough, Facebook Marketplace. But then again, Alaska.

As for pricing, always make your offer on a vehicle the last day of the Month. This is when you will get your best price.

I bought a 2022 Gladiator Rubicon in May using this site. Absolutely the best search experience.
I think you posted that awhile back.I checked it out and it seems pretty good. That sight will be saved for future use as its easy to forget about.

I had the same experience when I bought mine a couple weeks ago. Went to look at a used 2025 Mojave with 11k miles on it. They wanted 47 something, A new 2026 similarly optioned after the rebates and a discount was less than $1k more and the used one had a dented tailgate to boot. Ended up buying a more heavily optioned new Mojave in Anvil paint for $53 something down from a sticker of just under $62k. With the better APR on new it wasn't even much difference in payment. Sales guy was like yeah you can put a cool decal over that dent and no one would even know, this dent was the size of a large iPad, these guys.

The 21's, 22's, and some of the 23's are the ones people were paying full MSRP and MSRP + to get during Stimmy Fever when everyone was going to be an overlanding influencer #vanlife

Imagine how hard it would be to let your 70k Jeep go for 25k in just 3-4 years.

Bought for $44K in summer of 2022, she's worth about $24K on trade in (KBB, which has been close locally in my experience).

Thank goodness I owe way less than that šŸ˜„

When I was searching for a Gladiator (New or Used) late in '24 and early '25, I wasn't looking for a higher trim like the Rubicon or Mohave as the prices were too high. I found a '23 Willys Sport with a manual transmission, tow package and soft top that had sat on the lot for two years without selling, and within an hours' drive. Given the market conditions at the time, I was able to get it at $28,500, OTD for 32 and change. Since even the '23 straight Willys didn't come with any lockers or much in the way of extra stuff besides power windows, etc., the Willys Sport would suit my needs, which are light off-roading and a base setup that I could customize over time. Given the recent recall news, there may be more deals to be had as the year progresses, time will tell. It took me over 6 months to find my Gladiator, and I didn't think that I would be able to grab one technically "new".

To another members point, a LOT of these were sold at full MSRP a few years ago.

Anyway, I woudn't buy a used one now unless I was shopping well used and around 2020-2021 I'd guess. Otherwise might as well buy a new one...

Absolutely no one will admit it now though lol. It's the internet, everyone paid cash, and half off šŸ˜‚
Hah. I don't mind being honest. I mean I lied slightly. I paid 1% below invoice due to our corporate discount - but it was still a lot compared to now. That's a relatively modest discount compared to today.

I got a good deal on my '22 loaded Rubicon for only 60K + 6K in tax and 750 license . Then I added about 20K in mods that I installed myself. It's not my best investment ,,, LOL.
