My DIL just bought a new Camry hybrid as she has a fairly long commute. The dealer wouldn’t give her anything for her Subaru Legacy so they just decided to keep it. It has about 180K on it and still runs great so maybe look into a used Legacy. She was getting in the 30’s for mpg…

Good like finding a Subaru with an EJ engine for sale that doesn’t need another head gasket.

I was in a similar scenario with an 800 hp Mustang that sat in the garage 99% of the time. I decided to sell it, pocket some cash, and buy something the whole family could enjoy. Granted this is street legal in our town so we can use it daily and it meets your criteria lol

We have been thinking about doing a cargo trailer conversion. Nowhere here to take a trailer offroad exactly, and i can used an enclosed trailer to haul stuff on occasion, so we thought it would be a fun build that could be tailored to the mission.

I saw a guy lay one out with a few rows of e-track on both walls that allowed him to move the bed as need, or have bunks as needed, or other accessories. I thought that was cool.

I had a lifted tear drop a few years ago and that was super nice.

I did suggest a JK at one point - but a manual trans to keep it interesting We both miss having a stick shift around. Something we could keep mostly stock with good tires. Maybe a light overland style rig as someone else suggested. We would use that. Even keep it always kitted for day trips to the state parks, coast, etc. 270 awning, fridge in the back, some solar and power.

I'd buy a Wrangler. Would love to pair my Gladiator with a Wrangler. Have the Gladiator set-up for overlanding and have the Wrangler set up for some serious off roading like the Rubicon which is only a few hours away from me.

I have a stock 807hp Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye in the garage that I never drive. I've thought about selling it. But it's hard to let it go, it's a pretty awesome muscle car.

The suggestions on a Wrangler from a few people may not be too far off base.

See i cant build my truck out too crazy cause I need it to be a truck. The bed and cab cant stay full of junk, I need to pull trailers and drive it a lot so I dont want to lift it, etc.

A Wrangler could live mildly kitted out. I dont need a hard-core wheeler but i could see one with a few accessories to make our day trips and local vacations super nice.

We used to always have a spare vehicle…..until I started working from home full time, we kinda didn’t need a 3rd and we never drove them. They were always something we could take the roof out (per say).

So now….we’ve combined the convertible & truck into one - The JT!!!
We bought a little 17.5’ bass boat.
The hubby dries an M4 (although, the JT gets driven more for everything we do on the weekends).

If you’re into fishing or camping…what about a boat or camper?

I’ve always liked the ‘rugged outdoorsy’ type cars or trucks and hate all the same-old same-old SUV’s and cars out there. My husband likes the fast HOT looking cars (corvette’s, BMW’s, Audi’s, porsche, etc).

We are considering getting a boat or small camper after my truck pays off. By then the ole lady will also be done with her RN program and we will have some other things sorted.

We lean towards rugged / trucks and SUV's right now. They just fit with what we like to do.

I do like a nice sports car - just a bit more limiting at this particular point in life.

We made the switch from passenger road vehicles to the more rugged vehicles and haven’t looked back. While probably not quite as comfortable they offer capabilities that ensure our family’s safety. If needs be we can load everything up and get out in the event of fire or whatever. SoCal is supposedly overdue for a decent sized earthquake too so that’s always in the back of my mind. Can we get where we need to go if roads are thrashed or closed by emergency services? Road vehicles usually don’t offer the capability to get er done as well.

Yknow honestly a newer Grand Cherokee 4x4 could be a nice adventure build for us that is super comfy on the road. Hmm.

If you’re talking the 3 row go sit in one. That 3rd row leaves a lot to be desired. We considered one when looking for wife a 4Runner. Some good deals to be had on them though. They can get pretty fancy with the night vision and all that jazz.

Nah a WL is way out of pur price range for a third car lol. It would be a WK2 or something.

Our Subaru Crosstrek can fit more large cargo stuff out of the weather with the seats folded down than we can in bed of Canyon (current) or the Gladiator (previous).
It's boring, reliable, and gets about 37 MPG.

My mom has a 4dr Jk, my wife has a 4dr JL. I wouldn't spend my money on a JK. The JL platform is so much more comfortable riding. Better at being water tight also.
My MIL has a 2015 Grand Cherokee and it's pretty comfortable, I used it as a commuter for a few day not long ago. No clue about the fuel economy of it.
The GC would make a better traveling rig. Quieter and more comfortable ride. The JLU would make a better exploring type rig.

We travel for several hours at a time in our JLURD or the JTRD. Both are doable really. A GC or similar would be a little nicer. But we like our "rugged" Jeeps.

Im in a similar situation with a lotus elise, and the main reason I haven't gone 4 door jk is i dont want to lose the variation/specialities of the fleet. I've been leaning towards a convertible 4 series bmw for awhile now and recommend you test drive one
