From Boston.com

A well-equipped Toyota Tacoma with a V6 engine, quad cab, and four-wheel drive costs upwards of $40,000. Considering the standard four-wheel drive and V6, and then throw in the removable roof, removable doors, and lowerable windshield, and it’s not unreasonable for a Gladiator to start around $45,000 to more than $60,000 for a Gladiator Rubicon.

I refuse to read anything from Boston but did read this clip by accident. So what if it means a Rubi starts at 45K? ... Whoever's in that world, possible to confirm a Rubi JT for 45K is reasonable?

I just can;t see spending that much on a Jeep compared to a Full Size Truck.

I've said it before and caught a lot of heat over it, but I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of sad people out there when the price is revealed. My guess is a Sport optioned out with the max tow is going to come in close to $50,000 before you can get it off the lot.

So they plan to sell 50 of them?

I might be inclined to agree, IF, we're starting with a SPORT S Optioned (the way I've optioned most of it) AND, as you say, BEFORE I can get it off the lot - meaning BEFORE the negotiating is done . Of course it will be tougher early on, so it will be beneficial to ,say, wait 6 months to buy off lot (or order & wait) ! Again just my opinion based on my hopes & needs . I'm in no hurry vehicle needs wise; just health wise do I have a sense of urgency . After all I am gonna be 68 soon .

OK let’s all take a collective deep breath and look at some of the Gladiator’s competition to get a sense of what Jeep will be going against.

As I see it, the Sport trim would be comparable to the Ford Ranger XL, crew cab, auto, FX4 with trailer tow and an ELD.
The MSRP of that truck is $33,575

The Overland trim would be comparable to the Larriat with the same options as above.
The MSRP of that truck is $39,195.

The Rubicon would be comparable to the Chevy ZR2 with the same options as above.
The MSRP of that truck is $43,495

The Gladiator would need the following options to be comparable to the above trucks:
1. Hard top with liner
2. Auto transmission

So my question is why would anyone buy a Rubicon for 60k when you could buy a ZR2 for 43,495? That’s a lot of coin .....

I guess if a convertible is worth $17,000 more?

My guess is they sell everyone they make. People seem to think the Gladiator is in competition with every other mid size truck. It's and I quote "going to be intentionally expensive." It's a "lifestyle" truck (whatever that means) which the Ranger also claims to be but its not. I highly doubt my Tirminix guy is going to be driving one of these around any time soon. Sorry to say, but Jeep is intentionally going to price folks out of the market on this one. Relatively low volume with high prices = profit. Why make 1 million widgets and sell em for a $1 when you can make 10 and sell for $100,000 each.

Nobody buys a $100,000 butter knife, but I get your point.

I could see it go either way really.

maybe i'm way off, but i could see people in the market for an SUV and decide on a wrangler for a bit extra, because its unique, top comes off, and has a status.

I don't see people wanting an SUV and being like, "Yeah, i'll spend $10,000 more for that wrangler". Just like I don't see midsize truck buyers saying, "Yeah, i'll spend $10,000 more for that gladiator".

And how can you say jeep isn't comparing this to other midsize trucks, when its one of their staples, "The most off-road capable midsize truck ever". "The only open-air pickup truck in the industry", "Best-in-class towing"

But we're not comparing it to other trucks......we're different........oh wait we are comparing to trucks, but the top comes off, so pay $10,000 more? After all Its a lifestyle. We shall see.

Yeah but some people buy $200 butter knives (see Tiffany's). Mercedes could easily make a $40,000 G wagon and seriously compete with Jeep Wrangler but they choose not to. Jeep could easily make a 2 door 2 wheel drive entry level Gladiator and try to sell it to Fleet buyers as every other midsize manufacturer does but they've chosen not to. Call it a midsize, call it a convertible truck whatever. But I think Ford has already made the business case for midsize "lifestyle" trucks not being marketed to price sensitive consumers (i.e FX4 Lariat with a sticker that is just as high if not higher than a more capable F150 sans the leather, fancy off road cruise control and wood grain). It's just my opinion and I've been wrong before but I think the Gladiators are being marketed to the Tiffany's/G-Wagon/look at my new cool thing Instagram crowd. Not Joe six pack who needs a reasonably priced capable truck.

So you don't know what lifestyle truck means but you do no the ranger is not one:facepalm:

So Jeep plan is to intentionally price most folks out of the market on this truck but still chose to bring out a base sport model with crank windows and manual door locks?:computerrage: It makes no sense.
