I think I might be placing my order with Kent once the banks open for them in mid May. I don't want a lot of the extra stuff that comes on the LE. Does he take trade-ins?
Peterson is a normal Jeep dealer. They take trade-ins like anyone else. Kent told me they can do the appraisal remotely with pictures you send in so you know what to expect in terms of value before you travel if you're coming from outside Boise. Website is here if you need it:

Quick question: Are out-of-state buyers required to pay ID sales tax in addition to home state sales tax?

edit: I only ask because 7% below invoice seems too good to be true :D

No Idaho sales tax. They will collect tax for the state/county you live in. When he first drew up the LE purchase contract he added CA taxes & fees. I then corrected him and told him I'm registering in OR (no sales tax) and the taxes were drastically reduced.

If you think it's too good to be true, just check out the JL forum. Dozens upon dozens of satisfied customers with Kent.

Not too good to be true. There are several other dealers doing the same thing. They deal in volume. They make their money from financing kickbacks. The dealer will sell the contract to a bank. The bank pays the dealer a sort of finder's fee (at the bank I work at they call it dealer rewards) as incentive to bring the bank business. However, if you refinance the vehicle or pay it off before the six months is up, the bank won't send the kickback to the dealer as the bank didn't really make much if any money on the transaction. That's why they ask you to finance in house and not pay it off or refinance it for at least six months. Their interest rates are based on market rates, so you're really not impacted by any of that unless you were going to pay cash or you could've obtained a below-market interest rate on your own.

All of that said, Kent doesn't have a mechanism to stop you from refinancing, He's relying on you being a good person and helping him out after he saved you thousands. I for one will put around half down on Gladys with the proceeds from my JK sale (assuming the Utah market doesn't tank) and pay the rest of it off after the six months so I avoid too much interest and still get Kent his nut.

I bought our JLUR from Kent and they only collect tax from the state that you register the Jeep in:like:
Kent is good people and I will be going back to him for my JTR

What's the deal in Idaho if you aren't doing dealer financing? I mean how good of a deal are people expecting? I would assume not everybody doing dealer financing. Thanks! Would consider coming from Oregon .

With JL I think Kent was doing 5% off just for buying from him, 1% off for an FCA affiliate code, and 1% off for using their financing to get to the 7%. With JT he told me everyone gets the same 7% without an FCA code, but that was assuming they finance in house. I'm sure he can still get you a deal even if you don't finance there, though it might not be quite as good. Worth a call or email.

I ordered my launch edition from Kent (5% under invoice w/ TL, traditional financing). So far that's the only JT that can be ordered. Like @beelzebot said, when regular order banks open, historically they offer basic discount is 5%, another 1% with TL/FCA control number, and 1% with dealer financing. So you don't have to use their financing. People have played games with their financing (refi or pay off after 2-3 months to get the discount). Folks have come from all over for JLs and I'd expect the same on the JTs. Coming from OR is a no brainer.

We are seriously considering ordering our JT from a dealer out west & would fly out there, pick it up, and have an epic vacation driving it back to TN. Done it twice now with 2 other Jeeps, but this would be the farthest away = almost 2K miles + excursions! Kent sounds like the right kinda guy to do business with (for a change) will be giving him a call.

Talk to Travis at Tri-City in NC first if it's closer for you. Same deal and he's on this forum.
