New to the Forum. I couldn't sit on the side lines any longer. I put in an order with Travis @ Tri City Jeep on May 1st and am now contemplating logistics on how to get down to pick up my vehicle in the next 8-10 weeks (hopefully). Originally I was planning on driving my trade in down there and returning with my new vehicle. I am now just considering selling my trade in to CarMax and figured another way to get down there. Coming from Michigan. Has anyone ordered from TrI City before? Looks light the closest airport is Greensboro. About a 40 minute drive from Eden NC. Considering flying in, renting an Uber to get the dealership. Not sure if Tri City's courtesy transport would travel that far to pick me up. I know Travis is busy so I dont want to bother him with the question. Either that or maybe trying to develop a car pool with my fellow Michigan people who may have their vehicle coming in the same time. Thoughts anyone?

WELCOME, and congrats! I do think it's worth asking Travis about getting picked up... I will be picking up from him as well, and I eventually need to figure that out too. I don't think I'll be driving down since I'm hoping to sell my current car private sale.

@Travis@TriCityJeep any thoughts about this? Perhaps you addressed it somewhere else, sorry for the repeat. Any recommendations on which airport to fly into? And do you guys have a shuttle that could pick us up?

I’m in Raleigh about 15 minutes from the airport. If you guys can convince Jeep to deliver my LE first I would be glad to shuttle you the 1:30 trip to Tri City. ;)

I've been looking into this as I have an order with Travis as well. I read on the JL forum that some have successfully arranged a shipment from FCA to a local dealer even though they ordered/purchased from one out of state. It makes sense when you think about it since the dealer you order from never needs to hold possession of the vehicle, nor does FCA have to release it for shipment until the dealer confirms financing/payment has been secured. The destination fee is passed on to the customer, so I would imagine there is some possibility of being able to ship a new vehicle to a more convenient location so long as FCA plans on routing ship cars to that general area anyway?

Any insights on this would be greatly appreciated!

I have a hard time believing that a local dealer whom you did not buy from would be cool with facilitating a delivery for free. I don't work for a dealer, but I think there is more to it than you would think. Unloading the truck, storing the vehicle, and a pre-delivery prep checklist (removing plastic, wash, test spin), then any final paperwork. Even if the paperwork has been completed you would still need to verify before someone drove off in a 50k vehicle.

Courtesy delivery / drop ship. Selling dealer must submit the drop ship change request to the VOIM team. The dealer who actually delivered the vehicle only gets paid by FCA for the PDI. They are assuming the liability for little profit while the selling dealer profits from the sale. Most dealers don't wan the aggravation.

I asked Travis about shipping early on - he mentioned the companies they use charge $1.00-$1.50/mile.
So that’s straight shipping, not involving any other dealer.

How about renting a car and setting it up to be dropped off around the dealer.. I'm looking into this as well.. luckily I have friends that are also excited for this as much as I am so they are riding down with me.. it's about 300 miles away from me so the Jeep should be fully broken in when I arrive home

I was thinking about riding my motorcycle down and then throwing it in the back but then I remembered I'd have to find ramps lol

Would it be bad to tow 1500 lbs (probably less) during break in?

I’ve done this a few times in my life. The uhaul motorcycle trailer is cheap...
