For what it's worth, 2 dealers told me the mileage is irrelevant until you get to 36,000 miles. I assume at that point you are buying an extended warranty for a used vehicle
https://www.mopar.com/content/dam/mopar/pdf/mvp/2016-12 MVP_Pre-Owned Maximum Care Brochure 81-770-2080.pdf
Correct. Your factory warranty is good for 3 yrs/36k mi (which ever you hit first). From there you are on your own unless it is a recall or you have an extended warranty.

To me it boils down to your individual risk tolerance and where you are financially with your JT. I am a person that likes to plan ahead and mitigate/transfer risk, so I elect to get an extended warranty. Others could elect to take the $2k+ and invest it - then use the future dollars to fund any repairs. It is all a personal decision and a gamble. Hard to tell who pays off until we all get to the point where we are selling our JTs for new ones and have the hind sight to know what repairs cost or did not cost us based on our warranty decision.

Started discussing extended warranties in this thread:

https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/let’s-talk-ecodiesel.3176/page-7#post-198478

I'll probably opt out on my JT due to my dislike of extended warranties. If someone is considering the EcoDiesel (if/when it's available in 2020+), I would STRONGLY recommend it since I was royally screwed on my EcoDiesel Grand Cherokee, and feel FCA is still trying to figure out the whole diesel emission thing...

BTW, you can get the extended warranty after the fact from other dealers on-line as long as it's still under warranty (forget the details since I bought my GC in 2013). When I looked, it was considerably cheaper than what my dealer was offering at time of purchase.
Totally agree myself. Had an eco diesel and not impressed. Its still part of the law suit. My buddies is currently under lemon law. And yes I just received offer in mail on my JT on extended warranty so they sell them to you after the fact.

And they do offer 18mo interest free financing on the plans. So for me it is just about $100/mo after downpayment, if I wanted to not just put down the $2200-2600 the online quote gave me.

The most expensive repair I had to my car was a rack and pinion that went out with a bunch of axle components. Ended up costing $1700 at a small repair shop I had a contact through. Ever since my Honda hit 140k miles I have put about $5000 in repairs (currently at 170k) over 3 years. Almost all of that has been brake pads, calipers, etc. Alternator went out, axle boot ripped off, rack and pinion broke and leaked fluid for months before I could get it into the shop, brake lines replaced, etc. most of that wouldnt be covered under any warranty, I would think (hence looking at what mopar covers). What concerns me with the JT is all the technology in it, as one poster said regarding needing their tpms system replaced amd the wiring wrapping around the entire body quoting $4k repair bill

I just purchased my Rubicon last week and of course, when it was my turn to speak with the finance guy he was pushing for the 10year/100,000mi extended warranty. The lowest I was able to negotiate the extended warranty was for $2,000. Just when I was about to sign, I decided to call my insurance company, Geico. I inquired about their extended warranty, or Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI) policy. Geico's MBI mirrors Jeep's original 3 years/36,000mi warranty and extends it out to 7 years / 100,000mi for a whopping $10 extra / month, or $840.

I naturally did not accept Jeeps terms and am going to with Geico soon.

Here is a response I got from a Jeep dealership

A couple notes on the differences with MaxCare: The way MaxCare works is essentially factory warranty coverage and the dealer has a defined dollar limit to self-authorize claims (usually $1,000 or $1,500). Above that the dealer submits a request to MVP for authorization and it is given on the phone. Geico or any aftermarket contracts all require phone authorization by the repair facility and over a dollar amount (usually $1,000) they send an inspector out which can delay the claim by a few days. MaxCare pays the dealer through normal dealer warranty processing, and Geico like other aftermarket service contracts pays by check or credit card which could also delay receiving the vehicle back when waiting on payment after completion of the repair. MaxCare also offers rental up to 10 days without authorization, trip interruption which covers things like hotel stays in the event you are away from home and nationwide towing to the closest dealer.
As for component coverage, there is no brochure that lists individual component coverage any more, just the systems that are covered. I have been with Chrysler in the service department since 2010, and have never had MaxCare deny a claim except one event where a gentleman put diesel in his gas vehicle. However, here is a list on our internal website that have that list that was in the previous brochure;
(Essentially if is not tires, filters, brake pads, rotors, belts, wiper blades, glass, soft trim such as seat upholstery or interior trim panels or painted body panels - it is covered. I know it says in the ’not covered’ section that keys / remote transmitters are not covered but they are - just limited to 3 replacements due to electrical failure for the life of the contract)

Funny this conversation just re started. I just got an email from fiat chrysler stating that my vehicle "may" be eligible for an extended warranty, unlimited mileage. Says to call them at 1-800-215-3697. It also says if you call before 12 months or 12,000 miles you qualify for $150 off. But Im sure its all just a marketing ploy to get you on the phone.

To share all of the information I am getting on Mopar MAX CARE Warranties, Tom Winkels seems to have the best pricing. Note, this is based on living in SC and having 10 mi on my Gladiator at purchase. Hope this helps

upload_2019-11-26_17-2-29.png

BTW - Tom's direct line is (269) 385-1116. Seems like a stand up guy.

Edited: Made the table more readable. Thank you Excel!
Hmm. Looks like I might need to give Tom a call on this. The amount of techonlogy in the Jeep with it being sort of a first year does kind of scare me. I don't think I need as high of milage and know there are a few other options out there as well.

I wonder if you have the 3yr/36 if the 7 year would start rt away. Because if the 7 year started at the end of your 3 yr that gives you effectively 10 yrs of coverage, but if it starts right now it would just be omitting out the years on your already three year warranty.

Okay, I bought my GC Trailhawk a little over a year ago, first jeep and I'm hooked, just love it! Got the full extended warranty for another 3k or so. Never owned a Wrangler but wondering if an extended warranty is a good investment for the JT, especially since I plan on doing some off-roading and probably a few mods like a small lift and 35's.
check out this thread. https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/extended-warranty-pricing-deals.16882/

apparently this guy beats everyones prices

I see a lot of “mechanical” coverage. What about electronics? Only place I have seen discuss that is jeepfactorywarranry.com with their list of what is covered, and they offer 8yr/125k mile or 7yr/Lifetime Coverage. I am still waiting for any of the dealers/Mopar.com to respond with clear documentation on the following

What are the “5000+ components” covered?
What must be done to maintain the coverage?
What acts will void coverage?
Does coverage include electronics and computer components?
What are the costs beyond the deductible (such as diagnostic fees, disposal fees, etc.)

Yea I would have to get all those questions answered as well. And what I gathered from that forum was the new warranty does run parallel to your 3/36, which is absurd to me.

From what I have seen typically the it is the complete warranty sold at the time. So on a "7 year" you are effectively buying 4 years, but do get some additional benefits at times like roadside assistance or free rental cars.

I was on the fence on getting one, but now am pretty sure I will. My Dad just got the ABS light on his 2016 JKUR as he was driving to my house today.

I have a 2015 JKU with 68k miles. I got the lifetime maxcare warranty. I just started getting a horrible rattle/sustained tick (assuming lifter tick). The factory warranty would have expired in 3 months. Ill be bringing in the jeep for service next month when im off work. In my opinion if this thing needs a new cylinder head than Im happy I got the warranty!
Hi Nelson,
We're sorry to hear about your concern. If you need any assistance while working with your dealer, please feel free to PM us.

So from what I understand, you can get this Mopar extended care plan even when you have had the vehicle for just under 3 years/36,000 miles? I'm running some quote comparisons and the pricing doesn't change much between a 2019 Jeep Wrangler with 2000 miles on it and a 2017 Jeep Wrangler with 30,000 miles on it.
