Looks great! I am about to do the same upgrade on my Rubicon as well. Did you fit the 35" Ridge Grappler on the spare without any modifications?

Has anyone tested putting a 35" tire in the stock spare location? Any issues?

I am sure someone has put or at least tried to put a 35” tire in the spare tire mounting location. Anyone? My new tires arrive tomorrow so just trying to see what I am in for to get it installed.

I've seen a few videos on YouTube that state a 35 will fit under there

I have a 315/70R17 (almost 35s) and they fit the spare tire location fine.

I might have answered my own question.

Looks like the Nitto Ridge Grapplers will work on the OEM wheels:

  • Wheel Diameter
    17
  • Aspect Ratio
    12.5
  • Section Width (Cross Section)
    35
  • Overall Diameter
    35
  • Rim Width Range
    7.5-11.5
  • Rim Width

  • Weight
    74 :surprised:

74 lbs tires seems like a huge hit to on-road performance though. vs. WRANGLER DURATRAC at 68 lbs. But those require 8.5" wheels.
33" tires are normally around 50-55 lbs.

20 lbs of unsprung weight per wheel is a substantial hit to on-road performance. I think the rule is 3x.

So 80 lbs x 3 is like adding the equivalent of 240 lbs to the truck. FML! And that's just for 35"s. Imagine 39 and 40.

I was just on the Nitto web site - the minimum for 35’s showed 8.5?

This is a good look and more than likely what I would do. Do you have more shots? You effectively have my doppelganger.

Have you run into any interference off road and with the swaybars disconnected? Any idea on how low of pressure you can run with the narrow factory wheel width?

I'm considering this setup but remove the lower half of the fenders to gain more clearance.

I have 315 BFG's too.

I've had no interference issues and have run my swaybar disconnect several times. I have not twisted it up alot, but I did add a 1" spacer a couple of weeks later just for appearance.

I'll try and take a direct pic to post up this afternoon, they're really flush with the flares on the factory wheels. they don't stick out.

35’s fit great. I’m running Toyo M/T’s in a C-load rating. Not much different from stock ride quality. Load range E’s ride like stone
