Just as an fyi, I just traded a 2016 JKU that only had a little over 10k miles. Before I went to the dealer, I got a price from Carvana. That actually helps when it comes time to negotiate trade value, especially when they are trying to lowball you.
Takes only a few minuets and they are generally fair.

Not a bad practice but I would add that people need to make sure and factor in any trade-in tax offsets between what a third party will pay you for your trade vs. the dealer. Third party trade-in value needs to cover that tax offset.

That was the dealership I was hoping to work with; offered me $10K under fair price at most places.

I don't follow what you're saying, here. Perhaps I'm having a dense moment; where's my coffee??

Oh no, you're not having a dense moment, I'm the one who forgot to put in some vital information. They offered me 10k$ under fair price for my trade-in is what I should've added. Claimed they used KBB, sent me a document that looked very much edited to look like it was from KBB.

$55,800 is about $200 over employee pricing. I assume this includes the destination charge, if so it is a good deal. I paid $55,600 (or there about) with a employee control number on my purchase.

I don't get why people think they are going to get KBB value on trade in's and complain about it. The dealership is going to be 10-20% less depending on the vehicle to cover themselves. If you truly believe in your vehicles value, put it on Autotrader and it will sell in less than 2 weeks if appropriately priced.

One of their LEs is priced at $55,300.

If I can get the deal I want on an ordered JT (doubtful, with the current forced options on the Rubicon), I plan on selling our Toyota Venza (and joining Tread Lightly) while waiting for the Jeep to be built; so no trade. Most certainly makes it much simpler. The folks here who say they got X% discount off invoice when a trade in is involved really have no idea what they paid for the Jeep. What the dealer shows you for your trade in on the buyer's order has no bearing on what they 'book it' in at (their 'accounting' cost of the trade in). At least that's how I understand it to work.

A person with a trade in needs to have in mind ahead of time what they're willing to pay for the new car and what they're willing to take for their trade in. The difference between the two is all that matters. A trade in with a payoff can muddy the waters a bit, but rest assured any overage of payoff to actual value will be factored into the customer's side of the equation. Yeah, they'll pay off the loan on the trade, but that $2000 (or whatever) that is negative equity will be factored into the beforementioned difference that the customer pays.

I'm perfectly willing to travel for mine for deeper discount.

My frustration with trading in a vehicle is the inconsistency of dealership values; I’ll get an offer from one dealership for my trade in that I would be pretty happy with, and then just down the road I’ll get 5-10K below that offer. A little annoying, but once I find a good dealership to work with, it’ll be worth the wait!

I think you may have success by identifying JTs you are interested in and negotiating an OTD price with your trade factored in. High volume , low advertised price dealers are less inclined to give you a reasonable price for your trade.

There are methods to get to your bottom line number, but if they start $8k apart from where you are, it would be tough to get to your number with that dealer.

When I started preparing for my recent purchase, my target price was 10% off MSRP and the average of kbb private party and trade value for the trade. Any dealer should be able to do that, and if they don't want to, move on.

Maybe some of you remember when I posted this just shy of a month ago. This vehicle has been stolen from us and is believed to be in the Chicago area. 16 Hellcat Charger, black with bronze wheels, our white dealer plate was on the front and rear as well as our dealer sticker on the rear trunk. Any help is appreciated

Wondering if any of you that purchased JTs from Motor Inn are interested in going to the Jeep Jamboree in the Black Hills next Sept. I signed up today. https://jeepjamboreeusa.com/
I'll have to talk to my wife, but I'm sure she would be interested in going. Our last visit there was the trip home from Motor Inn picking up my Gladiator and the view wasn't as planned with the fog blocking the views.
