With the Jeep I wouldn’t really lose any sleep over a little scratch on something. Of course I’d rather have the clean part and scratch it myself, but to save a few bucks why not?
Agree, which is partly why I'm leaning toward Gator, as opposed to Hydro for example. If I get one, it will see off road use for sure.

I feel this! Glad to meet a fellow Colt lover! There is a huge difference in used with character compared to used and neglected.

To answer OP, I say no to the used beat up parts. I didn't buy a brand new vehicle to throw trash parts on to make it look like a used and abused s**tbox. You might as well spring for the used and abused in the first place and save yourself tens of thousands of dollars. If the parts are quality and have a little wear I would consider, but nothing like the photos you posted.
But there are no used/beatup JTs

But talk about an M3 or something like that, we’re having a different conversation.
What do you mean

That I wouldn’t be buying scratched up parts for my BMW. Granted I don’t have the M3 anymore, but just using it as an example. Different vehicle that gets used in a much different way.

My Jeeps get used as Jeeps, so I go above and beyond for mechanical maintenance but figure I’ll have some scratches or dents at some point.

So some of us are just starting out in careers and the JT is the first new/nice vehicle bought/financed. As such we cant always buy everything we want at once or even in the condition we want. For those in that situation or who have been there, where do you draw the line on used/takeoffs? Do you care if parts like bumpers are dirty, scratched, or dented? Rails? How about wheels that much have scuffs? Or interior parts that show wear. Prices for these accessories and parts are really good, and they function fine. Just cosmetic problems.

For example, this Mopar bumper off of a JK/JL for $150. Would you put it on your new JT to avoid paying $1000 for a new one?

First off: as a resident grumpy old guy, your post gives me hope for the future, in a world of "gotta have it now" and over-willingness to put it on credit rather than save-up-and-buy-what-you-need-and-when-you-can-afford-it. Koodos for not falling into that trap.

Secondly: there is nothing wrong with take-offs or used parts (in good working condition). Cosmetics can be improved with a little elbow grease. My first 4WD vehicle was a 1989 Nissan Pathfinder, and I made that turd shine real good like. Rattle cans work wonders.

HOWEVER, I don't see any reason for you to put those cheap plastic JK bumpers on your JT. They are no better than the stock plastic bumpers on your Sport.

They were to be steel bumpers. Seller clarified

If those are them in the picture, the seller is either mistaken or lying. 100% those are the plastic JK bumpers. They are steel behind it, but they have a plastic cover that dents really easily (ask me how I know).

I get that. I’m just saying that since you bought a nice new truck why would you throw on beat up parts and turn it into a new truck with parts someone else had the fun of beating up? Save up, buy new, look pretty for a little while, and then go beat the snot out of them yourself haha You’ll have the fun of doing it!!

For sure. For me, they will get banged up anyway but prob not good for those who don’t wheel their Jeeps and keep them pristine.

I wouldn’t put dirty used parts on my car. Just my Jeep.

Yes he clarified they were plastic when I asked. But it was put to emphasize if the deal was that good (a takeoff steel bumper for $150) would folks take it

If you have beatup parts you can put them on before offroading and have the nice oem new parts of your vehicle for on road use

I do it with rock rails at least. Have steps and rails. Steps for when wife and family need loading, rails for off roading
I know what you mean. I’ll be going with steps for my Dadiator haha
