In the process of doing a platform. In the meantime using a layover thing from amazon but hair still gets under. The Corso and the Dutchie both super agile so no trouble, although the Corso uses the step getting down.

so he jumps to floor, then up to seat? I guess I should have mentioned I dont have my gladiator yet so I cant experiment. ha
The seat folds up and gives more floor space, if you take out the underseat divider thing (it doesn't support the seat, you have a large flat floor.

My dogs ride in the bed. Mastiff & St. Bernard so 110 & 130 lbs. I build this enclosure with cargo nets. I also have lap belts that click into their harnesses for sudden stops or accidents. They are older dogs so can't jump into the bed & i would not let them. Knee surgery is not cheap. For now i lift them in but its rough on the back. I have a 71" tri fold ramp coming this week, from amazon, to save my back & their knees.

It’s awkward for dogs to get in the back seat imo. When the backseat is down, there’s not much room for them to jump on to the floor, then to the seat. I have that plastic tub under the seat, so putting seats up wouldn't help much with that.

That tub is only held in with 4 bolts and it provides no support for anything. Our problem is ours won't use a ramp, they freak him and he does more damage trying to avoid it than it helps. He can get into our Envoy but it is not easy. Needless to say, he is not a ride dog. The vet and going down to our families river camp for summer holidays is about his only rides.

Yeah...its just not designed well nor safe to let dogs jump in/out of the back of my JTR...its too far....too narrow(land on floor) and too high (land on seat). The awkward rear door opening makes it really bad.

Luckily, I can still easily lift our 60lbs'ers so I do that :)

My 35lb 18" tall golden doodle can make the jump from ground to seat in a stock JTR (maybe a touch on the sill but not the floor). She's a spritely little thing

Our 140 pound Great Pyr is 11 years old and well past jumping into the Jeep stage. We have a trailer hitch mounted step the she uses to get her front feet up, then I lift her back end into my wife's daily driver, a JLU Rubicon. No way to get her in or out of the Gladiator.

Both of ours are around 60-65lbs. The youngest is 7 ..a Chocolate Lab the oldest is probably at least 13 or so ...a Pit Bull mix. Neither one can be called agile or nimble...and both don't even think about jumping...just patiently wait for me to lift them up :)

The Pit only goes to vet....she hates going places.

The Lab on the other hand loves riding in the JT :)

Your dog needs to be restrained in the car, for safety reasons. There are laws in many places. That could be a harness (as another poster mentioned, Sleepypod harnesses are the only good independently crash-tested harnesses), a crate (great option), or a cargo barrier. If he worries in the car, do lots of short, fun trips - eg every day drive the couple of minutes to your local park for a run, ignore any whining, praise when he's good. He'll get used to it eventually.

I have a husky, he can jump up and into the seat even with the bigger lift and 35s. But I could see less athletic dogs having an issue.
