I've been considering a Gladiator for months and a few weeks ago my local dealer dropped off a manual for an extended test drive. I loved it and decided to pull the trigger on the truck even though it was my second choice colorwise. However, my salesman said they couldn't sell existing in-stock manuals due to the pending recall which could take awhile to be rolled out. The sales team suggested ordering one in the color I wanted instead and that a newly built manual would have the recall issue addressed and arrive faster than waiting for the recall. By their estimates it would arrive late May or early June. I put the deposit in 2 weeks ago to get the order going.

But now I'm hearing from other posts here that production isn't happening right now and won't restart until mid May. So can you even buy any manual Gladiator right now? Or if you want a manual do you need to wait until June or maybe even July for either a newly order one or an in-stock one with the recall applied?

@JeepCares or anyone else have any insights?

EDIT: Doh, realized I should have put this in the ordering thread. Admins, feel free to move it. <newby mistake>

I did not know that you could not buy an existing manual off the lot. Most of the manuals around at the end of last summer were not Rubicons. I only found a very few Rubicon Manuals on the west coast at the end of last summer, and the colors were Sting Grey or White, maybe 5 total. Actually there was only one Sting Grey that was pretty loaded and I drove 3 hours to buy it. So, if you want a Rubicon Manual, I believe you will have to order it. Regarding the other models, there were many more manuals available at the end of last summer. Note: My manual Rubicon has been recalled, but, I have not had any problems with the clutch yet.

To my knowledge, you still cannot order the 6MT. I suspect once a fix is identified, they'll re-open the ordering but at the same time, I also suspect that the new part will be prioritized for existing owners because they are literally telling people to part their truck and handing out loaners in many cases.

You'll probably have better luck off the lot once the parts head out because dealerships will do their in-stock vehicles as soon as the parts show up.

Jeep currently has a stop order on the sales of all models equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission due to a clutch recall. You won't be able to buy any manual Gladiator off a lot until the recall has been addressed. When dealerships can get the parts to fix their Jeeps is anyone's guess at this point.

Many thanks for the link. Looks like I'll just have to wait (or compromise and buy an automatic). Patience grasshopper, patience.

While I realize the dealer said you may want to order one, can't you get a better deal on the Jeep that's in their lot and already built? I figured they'd want to move it and be more incentivized to do so.

I know, right? According to them though, whether ordered or on the lot, the same incentives would apply at delivery. I guess it all depends on when each one would be ready to sell and for what incentives there are at that time.

I bet because they couldn’t sell you a manual off the lot, they encouraged you to order. That way they lock you in on a sale. Nothing to do with how soon you would get it either way. They don’t know.

I am so glad I bought my manual when I did (Sept 30, off the lot). I would have never even considered another automatic, especially in a Jeep. I tried to order a Gladiator from the local dealer in Gobi and they called back after a couple of hours to tell me they couldn’t order manuals for some reason and didn’t know when they would be able to. The only MT they had was a totally decked out Rubi. I went on line and found exactly what I wanted in Sting Gray at a GREAT dealer about 200 miles away (Barnett in Winchester, TN). Made the deal over the phone, picked it up the next day. In and out in 20 minutes. Great experience. Love the 6 speed Gladiator Sport S.

Yeah, your timing was pretty good. Mine, not so much.

You snagged exactly what I want - a Sting Gray manual. I'm open to trim level (if it's on the lot and I can get a good deal) but prefer a Base Sport.

Someday... someday...

As of April 22nd the recall has been issued and you can now successfully place orders for the manual. I work at a Dealer and I myself ordered my own manual Gladiator Rubicon. My order was placed March 28th 2020. We couldn’t order it through the system as the system wouldn’t allow it, so we have to manually send it to the plant to get the order put in. Mine stayed in the system with a 23r code but a no charge automatic was added until April 22nd when it officially the order was accepted as a manual transmission and I now have a VIN.

You can order them now, if your dealership doesn’t realize this have them double check as they are being accepted.

Great to know - many thanks. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

You know, I said the same thing after 5/7 of the vehicles I've owned with sticks (my first car and a small SUV where it wasn't available being the exceptions) and I gave in because I want my wife to enjoy wheeling as much as I do... She doesn't mind a stick on the street but she hated off road in my Tacoma.

A couple months in, I honestly have zero regrets with the 8AT. This is by far the best automatic transmission I've ever experienced in any car I've ever driven and I drove quite a few in my years wrenching. The shifting is firm, the logic is excellent, the ratios are fantastic... I have none of the issues I've had with automatics in other compact and mid-size trucks I've driven over the years and 8 speeds is the perfect balance where you can have a great ratio spread without hunting (see Tacoma for not enough gearing and Ranger for hunting).

I went to 3 dealerships just to find one stick shift, but then again that was in December. Not very popular for D.C. traffic.

One of the reasons I chose the manual was because of the need to regear and the shift points - with larger wheels.
And c'mon man, it's a JEEP! (kinda)
