I've had cloth and leather in JKs. The leather is WAY better, and I hated the idea completely until I had it. Wife wanted it. Now I see it as a requirement. The abuse is one factor; leather just stays new for a very long time through sand and mud and crap I've done to it. Fabric...not at all.

Color matched is something I've never liked at all. I expect my fenders to look terrible soon. I'll replace them then.
My 6 year old van has shown me leather doesn't hold up great either. I have not clue how the kids discolored it so bad. I also worried about the constant exposure to the Carolina weather just destroying leather (entire days of direct sun, random pop up rain storms, etc).

Tip... I think it's all in the conditioning. When I got my leather JK, and now with the JT, the first day I applied Meguiar's Gold Class conditioner to the leather. Then re-applied the next day, until it just couldn't soak any more in. I applied it heavy the first day, and didn't drive it again. I now clean and re-condition every 9-12 months. It stays looking perfect. When I traded in my 2015 for the JT, it was still nearly perfect.

I treat cloth cars with 303 fabric protectant. But my old JK with cloth always had a dirt look to it after a few years, and also a big guacamole stain. Hey, a guy's gotta eat on the road...

I will agree with you here. A base model manual transmission with manual windows and such has no place for a wireless key. Just doesn't make sense honestly.

The other ones I get it in, though I do sometimes wonder with the level of creature comforts that are included on a rubicon, especially the loaded ones on the lots. Like I couldn't find anything. trucks in general are meant to be abused a little. Jeeps going on trails are going to be abused. Why the hell did most of them have color matched everythings and leather seats?

Now ridgeline isn't a fair comparison still, that things towing and payload isn't great.
another voice of reason in a sea of...well...not that ;) thank you Sir

Except that there's simply no such thing as a real key any more. The computer controls everything, and every "key" has a wireless module. Producing a fake key for base models would cost more.

i may be abrasive about this, doesn't mean i'm wrong lol

lots of it tongue in cheek too as i'm sure many have picked up on

it took me awhile to adapt to the fob on my ram 1500, but it was doable but it pushed the max size for the mans pocket, at least it was also considerate in that it was very aero...pocket dynamic

this jeep fob is too big and it's not pocket dynamic, my iphone fits better in my pocket than this stupid atrocity and my iphone can do 8 million things, this stupid fob would be lucky to do two things...it's best function is to piss people off

a key would be lovely but agree it's probably not the answer, a button to lock/unlock be great as we don't get the sport in canada, sport s only, so i ended up with some power windows/locks etc. anyway...somewhere in the middle between a key and this damn fob would be fine, just make it fit in my pocket and fit in a technological world where a computer fits in your pocket but a vehicle key is a damn fight...it just makes no sense whatsoever, not sure why an auto manufacturer would go out of their way to miss such a massive oversight on the main and highly handled component to operating their machine??? it's like it was all 'engineer' people responsible for it...because the more blue collar people would never have lacked the common sense and 10,000' view of this particular item lol

It COULD be smaller. I'm not sure why it's not. But I can tell you this...it has far more range than our BMW key which is smaller. Same with a friend's Honda, which is also smaller. She has range issues in many places. So MAYBE it has a benefit, I really don't know. I think we agree that the size is kind of annoying. The rest of it is good to me, I love the entry without touching the fob, and starting without touching it. Our BMW has both, but the entry annoys me because there's a delay and it's sensitive to position. Maybe because the Jeep fob has more range?

Ok, so I did test yesterday on my MT. Killed it at 20 MPH, put it back on run (not holding to start) and let go of the clutch in second gear (probably at 15 MPH). It started humming. Only question remains will the second battery discharge once the main battery runs down? How many charge cycles and capacity does the second battery have? Is there alternative plug to boost the Jeep to get the computer going for a rolling start? I find it annoying at best. Would be much happier with a simpler no electronic options (including empty hole for the radio and speakers), regular tarp for the roof and cheapest metal wheels. Do not know what else could we remove which is none essential from the factory, maybe bumpers and fenders could have a simplest cheapest option. Simply if I am factory ordering what is the problem to have them not install and not charge for it?
Here is something to think about - when my contractors see the Gladiator they all say oh nice toy, you are not using it for work too $$$ for that. So design for people to own and use, we will figure out how to use it.

This thread is about the security and starting mechanism of the vehicle. There's nothing to "not install" because it's an intrinsic part of the computer. The only part you can "not install" is the keyless touch entry system. The start/stop is just part of the computer. The JK's key was pretty much fake, turning it was the same as pushing the button we have now, and it would authenticate to a wireless chip inside the fob, like now. Except now we have TWO wireless chips, so we have a safety backup. There's a long range active RFID transceiver, and an inductively coupled short range chip.

Been reading all the complaints about the fob for months. Finally got my Gladiator a week ago. Just don't understand what all the fuss is.

Real issues anyone?

I understand that, but if there is no juice will it roll start? my 2016 did. In this one I do not see how it will as I have to put the switch into 'run' and the only way to do it is to have some power. Now if the engine starts and tries to authenticate when the juice is flowing I am OK, if it does not it is not OK. And original post was on -too much technology which I agree with, some people like it simple and honest.

Very unlikely. But that has nothing to do with the key fob. Many new cars won't roll start, and in the near future, none of them will.

Oh, and if you want to test roll starting it, press the key against the button and push it with the key. This activates the secondary, passive wireless module. But it still needs vehicle power to activate the computer, exactly as your 2016 did. You can be low on battery, but it can't be completely dead. The ignition computer and FI system need power first, which cannot be made from the alternator at low speeds.

This is just a computerized car thing, has been for some time.

for those with purses, cargo pants, mc hammer pants, backpacks, hipsacks, unusually skinny legs, or always wear a jacket....you're good to go

if you just want to roll as yourself in a pair of regular fitted pants, fitness wear, office wear, shorts and a t-shirt...well enjoy the shit out of your bulge i guess

if you have been a front pocket keys guy your entire life and moving along into the 21st century you have to put a pound of butter in your pocket this is monumental annoyance that occurs all day long, technology should work the other way around...
