Is it better to build your own And pay a little more or buy off the lot and pay a little less for same package? Or will the dealers come down on the ones you build?

You don’t pay more to build. In fact you could pay less. Bought my JTR under invoice. Ordered it the same week order files opened last year.

I always build. Get exactly what I want. Downfall is waiting 2mos. But 2mos ain’t nothin once it’s over.

If I could have found what I wanted on a lot I would have bought off the lot.

I ordered mine and got it 5% under invoice - could have had 6% but I didn't use the dealer for financing. I had to wait a couple of months but it's exactly what I wanted and the Monroney has my name on it which is pretty cool.

Agreed. I ordered a 2021 JTR diesel and got 7% below invoice, plus my trade. There is the wait that comes with an order, but it is exactly what you want.

Sounds like what I may end up doing. How did you all go about it? Build it on the site and send it to the local dealerships to see who would give you the best offer?

All depends what you can come up with. If not finding what you want on the lot in the way of features then build same with price may be better assuming some of the sponsors are still doing 7%. Some folks like myself managed to find what we were looking for on the lot at a very good price. If your not in a rush I would say just build and get exactly what you want in your truck. Its a good bit of money your paying to not get the things you wish for.

You can build it there very similar to building at home but it might be a good idea to build it at home, print it and carry it in with you...especially if you have a couple different versions.

Make sure to see their print out and confirm it all and don't pay anything over invoice at a minimum.

If you do order sign up for Tread Lightly. You'll get 1% below invoice.
Unless something has changed - This is something they didn't apply to the Gladiator but my dealer honored the discount anyway. And technically you're supposed to be in it 30 days. Just FYI

Where do I sign up for this at? I’m so new to the Jeep world with so many questions but so excited to own my first one and become part of the Jeep community.

I see you are in WV. Not sure how far away this is for you but check out @Travis@TriCityJeep. He has a sub forum in the vendor area. I have gotten two jeeps with him so far custom built and it was a great experience.

Both dealers I worked with suggested it and would honor it. As for the 30 days typical orders are taking 8 weeks. Plenty of time to sign up between order and financing.

One problem on build is you gamble on incentives. You can lock in your price at purchase but you can't lock in, for example, the $2k incentive they did earlier this year which will be on top of many of the standing offers. For some like the current 0%, there's a deadline at which point you'd have to have your truck and it's generally outside the order window.

If you're buying outright and/or don't care about saving all you can then it's less important but the $2k incentive and promo financing on top of that in February is what got me into my truck instead of ordering the perfect one.

If you're willing to make the drive from WV (likely a full day trip at most) to Falls Church, VA, there was a standing offer for like 8% off invoice at Koons in the vendor section here and Ourisman in Alexandria was dealing when I bought mine there. Lots of competition selling these trucks outside DC because they're not as popular as expected.
