Was going to ask the same thing. What is everybody using the 12 V plug for?

My dealer placed my order this afternoon. Said the same numbers as posted before about 1,440 available and 500 or so called for. We will see...

Ordered in February. Was ready to give up. Will believe it when I see it.

Ok gentlemen (and ladies if there are any in here), I have a question. Anytime I have hauled anything, it's been small enough, or the tow pig has been big enough, I've never needed a trailer brake controller before. Now, later in life, better jobs, etc...I have a Gladiator Mojave, the wife has a JLU Rubicon. We are planning on a boat, and a small camper. The nomenclature indicates that it is for the Gladiator but is there anything to keep me from installing it on a Wrangler as well?

Sorry if this is an ignorant question, but better to ask and be told no than to try it and waste the money or worse, right? lol

Thanks in advance.

I use my 12V for the display unit for the rear camera on my camper. I tried a different cord to plug into the USB-c, but it would not supply power. Planning on running the 12V to the glove box for now since that is the only reason I use the 12V

I use the 12V for an air compressor until I splurge and put in a dedicated system. That will probably go hand-in-hand with when I get the brake controller installed.

Nearly all boat trailers have surge brakes, not electric. And all travel trailers have electric. Surge brakes work when they push forward against the truck, all mechanical, nothing electrical. The boat trailers typically have a four-way connector just for lights; TTs have a 7-way.

How small? The towing capacity of the Wranglers is a pretty low 3500lbs and that is only on the unlimited with 410 Gears.

The biggest issue would probably be the wiring. I don't think the wranglers have a 7 way connector, or the plug under the dash.

I looked up the OEM JLU tow package harness and it's a four pin. This means no brakes, no charging line, and no reverse light pin. IE, there's no way the Mopar controller would work, you need to install new wires for those three pins and an aftermarket controller. This is what I had done on both of my JKs. Not a big deal. In fact, having a shop install all that for you is probably only about as expensive as the overpriced Mopar controller.

JLU’s with the factory tow package have a 7 way / 4 way plug and the harness for a brake controller under the dash. My understanding is the controller will work on 2019 and newer JL’s.

What are people using the 12v plug for? Never used mine nor can think what I would ever use it for.
I use mine to plug in my monitor for my rear camera on my travel trailer. But I’ll find another power solution when the mopar controller comes. I didn’t like the power wire hanging down in front of the dash anyways. I like things look clean. So I’ll probably get a power source up in the tray on the dash.

I wonder if I could route mine up there (dash tray) - all I use it for most of the time is to hold my sunglasses as that lower cubby is a total joke.
