I had broken a 5/8" 1/2" drive socket - I used it with my Milwaukee mega-impact and a swivel and so was at a tad of an angle. My bad for sure! I was abusing a standard socket on an impact that's capable of busting bolts. I took it to Lowe's and asked - do you guys....... and the response - we sure do!How are you getting them swapped out at this point? With Sears no longer being a thing pretty much everywhere.
I have my grandfather's tools and craftsman cabinets and I can say for sure the ones I got from him are still solid. The recent move to selling them at lowes has been a bit of a turn off for me, not going to lie. Have you tried those ones yet?
Now time has passed and they don't stock my preferred 6 point sockets, it's almost all 12 now, but that's ok as this wasn't my only 6 point 5/8" socket. Iv'e got tools in my wood shop upstairs, in my garage, in my main shop and in a couple of other tool boxes and drawers. But they didn't even hesitate. The problem was there wasn't even a place for a 6 point socket, the guy said for some sizes they can't even get them any more. Had I been insistent on a 6 point for THAT socket, then, well...... I'd have looked around...........
So it's possible that with the changing world, some things COULD be a problem, but most things not really.
I have a Carlyle 5/8" 1/2" drive 6 point from NAPA and that thing is so thin where the ratchet drive goes in - there's no real meat on the corners of that square hole. I'm afraid that one, if it breaks, will go on that end, not where it fits the bolt! Talk about THIN, wow. My new Craftsman has twice as much meat there for sure! I trust it over the NAPA socket.
