That will work, but so will any chinzy little pair of diodes for a buck.
I agree but I like the higher capacity, cleaner installation and build quality so I only have to do it once.

I can wire a house but will no longer attempt to mess with auto wiring. Can these lights just be wired to the reverse lights to come on when I put the truck in reverse and want to see what’s behind me?

I have mine wired directly to each respective reverse light input on the taillights. Works great and adds quite a bit of light for reverse backup driving. They only draw 1 amp per light so it will be fine on the reverse light circuit.

I personally would not run it this way because CAN is weird... FCA runs equipment out of the BCM instead of triggering relayed circuits so who knows if you'd have the headroom for the additional 2A or so that the lights require. Standard bulbs are a 2A draw so that's doubling what is expected but with the LED package or with LED bulbs, you might be good.

Still might work though... I just learned from years of working with CAN systems you don't fuck with their electrical more than you have to. Excessive draws from modules are a good way to burn out expensive modules if you are marginal enough.

If you do this, @Hootbro did it the closest thing to "right" that doesn't involve a relay... each side has an independent driver circuit out of the BCM so if you do one light to each, you're reducing the stress compared to tapping both on the same wire. Factory LED or LED bulb draw should be so minimal compared to a standard bulb that I can't imagine it being an issue.

I don't understand that about home vs. auto. I work on both, auto is far less dangerous, and easier. In 12v wiring, positive=hot, chassis ground=neutral, and there's just no safety ground which is the green in residential. That's it, no phases, no other crazy stuff. To know if your load is supported, go look at the fuses running that circuit, just like a house. Despite a lot of fears about the intelligent bus systems, they aren't all that crazy. Stay off the monitored circuits like headlamp/turn signal, and off critical ones like fuel injection, ABS, ignition. Otherwise it's just not a big deal.

I have no idea what the answer is to your question, if I wanted to do it I'd just start with the fuse ratings and some math.

Yes, they can be. I used a T harness from Curt, installed behind the bumper, and connected a set of reverse lights to the trailer wiring.

While this is good and useful info, note that the trailer reverse MAY or MAY NOT be part of the main reverse light circuit. They could be separate, with different load capabilities. Because this works on the trailer circuit we cannot assume that it also works on the main reverse light wires.

I would not advise tapping into the main reverse light wiring. It creates a potential failure point in the factory wiring harness. The T harness leaves all the factory wiring intact, and provides a quick disconnect point.
