Prices were dealer lot rigs. There's a lot that comes standard on Rubicon's that you cannot delete if special order.

Don't get me wrong. Love the Rubicon. Just don't need or want what it comes with. Lots of nice off-road features for folks really wanting to wheel.
Ah, I get it. The rubis on the lot were that much more than the sport models on the lot. Yeah I can see that. All the rubicons I saw were pretty well optioned. Most were stickers around $55k-$58k.

I wanted a Max Tow. But, there were none available anywhere when I was ready to buy.
The other must haves for the Gladiator I would be buying:
Led package, Tow package, Aux Switches, Cold weather group, 8.4" premium audio.
And, it must be on a lot where I can touch it and drive it.
I ended up getting a good deal on a Rubicon, and I am really enjoying all the extra crap that came with it!

When I purchased my Gladiator Rubicon at the end of 2019 the price difference between minimally optioned Rubicon with Tow, Automatic and Hard Top was only $4,500 more than a similarly optioned Sport S with MAX Tow. I was in the market for a Max Tow Sport S but it was a no Brainer for me to buy the Rubicon.

Rubicon has a better styled hood, rock sliders for body and bed, lockers, bigger tires, nicer wheels, higher fenders, electronic swaybar disconnect, nicer cloth interior, electronic socket behind center armrest and im sure there are more...all for an extra $4500 at the time. Not to mention resale value over the Sport S Max Tow. However, I don't ever plan to sell my Gladiator.

With all that being said, I did change out the wheels and tires. I sold the original Rubicon wheels/tires for $1200. Sport S Max Tow owners will be lucky to even get $400 for their wheels/tires. All-in-all, I'm so glad I went Rubicon instead of the Sport S Max Tow. The Rubicon offers more bang for your buck when compared to a similarly optioned Sport S Max Tow.

NO REGRETS, even when I see a Rubicon JT rolling by.

I traded a 2016 JKUHR with 80,000 miles for my 2020 JT Sport S Max Tow. I’ve had many Jeeps all lifted and many locked over 20 years.

The JKUHR was awesome but, I had trouble with the rear locker and the electric sway bar DC.

I am driving the Max Tow stock for at least three years. I even love the stock JT more than my JKUHR.

not at all mine max tow with brake lock differential has the same function as a rubicon with a 1.5 inch terraflex lift i run 35 12.5 17s when offroading and 285s 70 r17 on stock rims everyday, only thing im really missing is the sway bar disconnect . im on the coast of NC the nearest rocks are 6 hours away plus with poor mans rubicon the 10k i saved will buy a ton of horse feed

People have some warped view of Moab that I’ll never quite understand
its a good time and i like the area; but its not particularly challenging unless you go out of your way to make it so.

Why, or why not??
I have a couple of boats. I had a truck to tow them and a convertible for my everyday drive. Now I have one vehicle. I did not get it for off roading, driving the beach or down a dirt road is as far as I will ever go.

What is the closest I could get to a rubi and still have a clutch? Max tow forfits this, correct?
Correct. I'm pretty sure, do to overheating problems, you can not get manual and max tow.

I was offered a $1000 for my steelies because their hard to find I'm assuming, that was me keeping the tires. I like my Black steelies better than the Rubicon wheels personally.

I regret buying a black one more than I regret anything else. I wash my cars to infrequently to own three black ones

I'm sure I'll never use the extra features on the Rubicon, I'll only probably not use the extra capacity of the Max Tow. :)

Its an interesting conversation. I bought a 2020 max tow in 2019, and traded it in 2020 for 2021 Rubi.
There are some differences at that time that were only available in upper trim that even my wife noticed. Like the dual set of cup holders and charging outlets in the rear seat area of the 2021 Rubicon. Also soft touch wrap door cards vs just hard plastic. I would not be removing The high fenders and the hood or the rear steel bumper. Rubi wheels and shocks have better street value because non-rubi owners want some of the bits just not the all.
In hindsight sight...I wouldn’t settle for anything other than the vehicle I wanted forgoing the notion of buy what I needed...life’s far too short to settle even if it means saving until funds are available.

I like your color choice.

my daughters do appreciate the charging ports in the back. And I do love the high fenders. If I had a max tow, I would be looking for some rubi fender take offs, for sure. It changes the look.

I have had 3 other off road SUVs and none of them had lockers. I have been longing to have a vehicle with lockers for a long time. So, like you said, I decided not to settle and get one with them. Not saying a max tow is settling. I just really wanted me some lockers to play with.

I do get it...by not settling I meant getting what you want and not comparing one trim vs the other...you bought what you wanted. It’s only settling if you by the one you need or afford and you really want a different trim...and then spend time justifying or debating your decision after purchasing...doesn’t matter if it’s max tow or OLand or Rubi get the one want and deserve, you earned it and worked hard form it.
