What system prevents vehicle from driving, forward or backwards when the door is open?

My wife comes storming into the house, at the top of her lungs, “truck’s not smarter than me”.

She backed up to the mailbox, opened the driver door to step out to the mail box. When she got back into the truck it would not drive. The problem was after she opened the door, it slightly rolled backwards to the point where the mail box came in between the door and the truck.

Pushing the button to disable the ParkSense did not allow me to drive.

I was able to get out of the situation by unplugging the wires to the door, as if I were to remove the door. I’m smarter than the truck!

Is there a disable button for this? If my wife has to disconnect the wiring I fear she will yank out the wiring housing.

Not sure how it works, but I assume there is a switch that gets depressed when the door is closed, you might be able to hold the switch down to trick the door into thinking it’s closed

The door knows when the door side latch is wrapped around the post on the car side post.

Did you try putting your seat belt on? My understanding is the JT will not move with the door open unless your seat belt is buckled.
Thank you, just tested that, seat belt must be plugged in order to drive with door open.

The switch must be in with the latch, when looking around the door frame there’s no switch, button or sensor that I can see other than the door latch.

Mac had the best solution, plug in the seat belt.

Was the truck in Park during all of this? I know you usually have to switch it back from Drive to Park for it to get moving again.

This seems like an odd issue if it really does require having to unplug the door...

Plug in seat belt or buy a belt extender like I did.

Why did you buy a seat belt extender? Just curious - what do you need yours for? Do you drive without the doors on AND no seatbelt?

Order the Mopar seat belt extender on ebay or through your dealer.

I like to park close to my house facing in and I open the door and stand on my side steps to look at the front to see how close it is to the wall.

I live dangerously in my retirement.

@syreeves

I use a seat belt clip in the driver's buckle when I am going to hook up my trailer to tow...... I need to open the door when I back up the vehicle so I can align with the trailer tongue.

Some guys use a sea belt clip at automated car washes too.

Can't you Use the camera with 4x zoom for that?

Another use for doggie seatbelt. Same end as seat belt.

I have a lazer pointer to mark my garage spot. Better than a tennis ball. But you sir take the cake!
