I have had this Jeep JT Max Tow for a year and a half and I can’t get myself to lift it. I want 37’s in my head and I’ve had plenty of Jeeps, most all lifted and taken off road. This Max Tow just does so well as is. The gearing and the small tires keep it peppy. All of the complaints I hear about the 3.6 being weak. Yes, I am sure after a lift and bigger tires it feels that way... but these certainly aren’t sports cars or muscle cars and they don’t need to be rock crawlers either.

I have towed close to the Max with this truck and it does so well! I have had 3 of the 1 Ton Crew Cab 8 ft bed 7.3 diesel Fords. All tuned and beastly, but they are so BIG! I never towed the Max with those trucks. I pulled my wakeboard boats with them and used one for building my house. I think the most I ever towed with a goose neck was around 12k lbs.

When I bought the Max Tow I was coming from a lifted 2016 Rubicon JKUHR on 35’s. I Loved the JKUHR and it was a manual that I daily drove. When I traded the the JKUHR for the Max Tow I thought I would lift the JT, put some 37’s on it right away... but it is soooo good just the way it is.

The more I use it, the more I drive it, the more I love it.

The Max Tow is a special edition that is so overlooked and IMOP misunderstood. Out of all the JTs these Max Tow Jeep trucks are the ones that made the engineers really think hard on how to achieve what Jeep wanted. They had to test the Jeep Truck Max Tow to make sure it was what Jeep wanted the Gladiator to be. Jeep wanted a real pickup truck, not a wrangler with a bed. The Jeep brass knew that if they made that pseudo truck, the Gladiator would have been a joke. The competition would have raked it over the coals. Jeep wanted the Gladiator to best all other brands with the top payload and best towing in its class. The engineers had to do it with a fixed hood height and grill width too... you can’t change the look too much on an Icon. The Max Tow has to keep the approach angle that the wrangler and the other JTs had. They managed to pull it off! With bigger grill slots, bigger brakes, improved cooling system, wider heavier duty axles, 4:10 gears and an 8 speed automatic.

The Max Tow IS what gave us all the opportunity to buy a convertible Jeep Truck. The Max Tow is the benchmark Jeep set for their engineers when they created the Gladiator. A real mid sized truck best in class. The Rubicon has already been done with the wrangler, so it is no surprise that they would do the same treatment on the JT. No big deal to the masses if they released a Wrangler dressed as a truck, even with the Rubicon sticker. The Max Tow is what benchmarked the Gladiator as a real truck! When I role by the Yota, Chebby and Ford mid sized truck owners towing 6+ thousand pounds up a mountain at the speed limit. This just makes me feel good. I know their mid size trucks can’t do it! They certainly can’t do it with the top down!

The Max Tow IS the ultimate Jeep convertible pickup truck! Jeep really did an amazing job with it and I just don’t want to mess it up!

We put a 1.5” Teraflex leveling kit on ours and went up to a real 33” tire.. my husband didn’t want to mess with any of the towing gears, axles or any of that stuff, but I still wanted it to look tough ?. But I do love it.. looking at making an upgrade to an “S” because I need the powers locks and windows as a safety thing for my kid.

I agree almost completely. Lifts do affect steering/suspension and driveshaft geometry. To get the best tow rating, Jeep carefully optimized a lot of things, including tire size. I chose a 33" tire of the same width because I will be using it for rocky trails rather than towing near the limit. I have a Ram diesel for that. I consider my JT to be a back-up vehicle for towing. I agree that Jeep put a lot of good features in the max tow package.

Here is one reason for keeping it stock, because it does this very well.

I decided to drop from three vehicles just for me, my wife has an SUV and my two daughters have their own vehicles now too.

I had a Ford F-350 on 35’s with a tune, exhaust and intake with contractors rack.

I had my JKUHR

I also had a Ford Expedition EL 4x4.

Once my daughters had their own vehicles, I decided I would try having one vehicle that did everything I needed. The Gladiator does that.

I am looking for a nice 2012 Mustang GT 5.0 Convertible, in red of course. The Gladiator and the Mustang will suffice.

Coming back from a trip now and have to say that the max tow hits the nail on the head for what I want in a truck. Plenty of power to pull a m416 expo trailer through the mountains and then excellent off-road capabilities when you hit the trail. It's smooth, handles well with the trailer, and has been getting 17mpg on this trip.

You passed me the other day on 40 heading east. I was towing a trailer with my White Mojave. I recognize your truck because of the max tow stickers. I thought to myself that he is proud to have a max tow with the stickers on the hood. Turns out I was right!:like:

Hello, I do remember a white JT pulling a trailer, and I do like the stickers... they just need to be a little bigger like the Mojave and the Rubicon, IMOP. So will be changing those stickers out soon. I really think they should have been on the MT from the factory.

Now after watching the videos on 37’s and 4:10’s reaching 23 MPG, I will need to do some research. I’ll make some purchases in the power department soon. Those videos are awesome.

Last trip pulling a 3200 pound YJ on a 1500lb trailer I recently purchased, I Hate UHaul’s 2500lb auto hauler, I cruised at at an avg 60 MPH for 170 mile trip and got 15.5MPG. My climb up the plateau and Rockwood mountain heading east put the tranny in 5th gear a few times. Most of the time I stayed between 7th and 8th gear.
On the way back with just the 1500lb trailer and avg speed set at 72MPH maintaining that speed up the Rockwood mountain across the plateau (around 1100 pm EST), I averaged 18MPG. The JT stayed in 7th and 8th gear.

That is what I love about the set up for the Max Tow with the small tires and the fender air dams that everyone seems to hate. Good cooling, braking, and MPG. The unloaded and loaded down shifting I always thought was harsh, but it does a lot of compression braking and that is very helpful when towing a trailer.

My Max transmission temperature reached 203 with the YJ on the trailer at ambient temp of 70* F. On the way back with just the trailer stayed 201 and below ambient temp 66* F.

First time in decades I bought something that was accurate for mileage per gallon.❤?

At better than 20 MPG on highway 2000’ above sea level, only tossed the stock rims for 1/2 “ wider bling

Can’t wait to try is at sea level on a cool day with a tail wind & no AC.

I fill to the neck and refill to the neck after to compare with the onboard display.

On your thread starting post, you didn't add that our JT's do all that on a de-tuned and down rated 3.6 motor by FCA ?................... :giggle: according to what else that 3.6 is in and performance levels.
I'm really happy with mine especially when I can drive it around keeping the speed under 60 MPG wise. I do find the 3.6 lacking when towing the small loads I've towed so far, my LJ, MJ and XJ never seemed to be lacking on power (4.0 HO's motors) just in the braking (MJ sucked) that the JT really shine's. To me leg room and others things makes the JT (Max-Tow) really great too like when I hauled over 800lbs of concrete bagged and wood home in the bed. I didn't even really notice anything different driving home. FYI if anyone is planning on doing that or other stuff similar have a couple of HD plastic tarps to load it on, helps in unloading and clean up. Otherwise If spray in bed liner will hold the concrete dust. ;) :like:

I haven’t towed anything yet but wanted payload and towing as priority’s so I bought the max tow. The ride is nice and the mpg‘s are better than my Tundra was. I’ve been reluctant to lift or get larger tires because I don’t want to mess with the ride or fuel economy. I do think the looks would be improved with a lift and tires that made it sit like a rubicon

I love my Max Tow, but hated the stock look. Lifted it 2 months after I got it.

I really like mine. No long distancing towing yet but several upcoming trips. I have towed my 4100 lb. camper locally to test it out and seems like it will do the job I want it to. Mine is a Gobi and came from the factory with silver rims . Sigh. I replaced the silver rims with steel sport black rims. Looks so much better with the black rims. I plan on using the stock tires and black sport rims when towing. I put kenda 35's on spare steel rims for everyday use. Looks and rides better IMO.
