Seriously considering renouncing my citizenship and moving to Portugal. America is lost.
America is not lost. Is it on the edge of being lost? Hell yes. We're going through a "scare event" now. You're seeing the USA at it's worst moment. Things are going to turn around for our country by the end of the year. I really believe that and holding my head up high despite the snowflakes and assholes out there. Just stand strong, be respectful, hold the line and don't move to Portugal.

The children in the distance having fun playing in the sand.

While the Gladiator was tackling real obstacles.

Great day today.

Fort Ord, California November 1967. Standing in formation getting our Private nothing asses schooled by the company commander and a green vehicle pulls up and parks. The Brigade Sergeant Major gets out and then brass and a conversation ensues about drilling in the rain. I look at the vehicle and wonder what it is. It's a Ford Bronco with a steel cab and a small open bed to the rear. First Bronco I ever saw, and never saw another in my 3 years in the Army. Wonder where they all went.

Every year I get closer to buying a decommissioned missile base and going off the grid.

I've never understood the appeal - aren't you then automatically an 'x marks the spot' on every map made?

1960's government construction. They overbuilt all of it. Acres of fenced off land. Even room for my own off road park.

I recommend the book “The Storm before the Calm”

Its a great analysis of political and economic cycles in our country. Yes. We are in a bad way. Yes, it is going to get worse. Yes, its going to get ALOT worse. But yes, it will get better.

Wife and I were wheeling around Behind the Rocks dunes today with our skills training group. Bronco team and their ride alongs were there all day. As we were heading out onto trail, we were cordial and let a group of Bronco “passengers” go by. As they were going by our group, they were all giving us the finger.

If that is the type of buyer buying the Bronco, I’m glad we ditched our Fords for Jeep only. Waiting another 2 years to get their toys must be starting to grate on them.

Had a great trail day and tackled some really good obstacles.
But was it the serious finger, like "F-You" or was it the fun finger, like "ha ha we're driving rival vehicles, let's pretend we are actually in a rivalry just for kicks"? Were they angry, or were they goofing around? If they were just goofing around, that's part of the camaraderie of off-roading: my vehicle is better than yours, you suck, but I don't really mean it, and if you get stuck I'm going to help you out - and then I'm going to rip on you for driving a Jeep. Personally, I keep that kind of joking around within my circle of friends, but maybe that's where they were coming from. Not appropriate if there are kids around, and just a bad choice in general, since you never know how someone interprets getting flipped off! I hope you shook it off and had a good time :jk:

I've heard Wrangler drivers giving Gladiator drivers the finger. Happens with m/c riders too. Harley riders flipping off import riders. Assholes are not brand specific.
I had some lady driving a cj shake her head at me when i waved. My jeep at least had the doors off.

Great context question. From a rival vehicle driver. :)
In all seriousness, I appreciate it

You know you mention this but I know a number of people who have left or considering leaving. Some left for Spain a few went to the Caribbean and are now living what they say is the best time of their lives over in and around St. Thomas. I even know a number of people who are bailing from the UK for Spain and other areas. They all say pretty much the same as many here do that things are going to shit and they want out.

It definitely isn't just brand specific. I'm on several jeep Facebook groups. They're filled with assholes.

22 years ago, a dude sold everything he owned, bought a missile silo and moved his family into it, along with 5 years worth of provisions. Why? Because he was convinced that Y2K was going to throw the world into the stone age.
Boy, was his wife pissed when it didn't!
