Why did everyone decide their trim level (sport vs rubicon etc)?

I debated for quite a while before pulling the trigger on my Mohave. I was originally looking at a Sport S with Max Tow with the plan to do a lift and larger tires, but by the time I added the lift and tires, I was getting within a couple grand of a Mojave or Rubicon. Eventually, I decided I'd rather have the Mojave/Rubicon for about the same price.

Finally, in debating between the Mojave and the Rubicon, I settled on the Mojave because I spend a lot more time on Forest Roads and in the desert than I do rock crawling. The suspension package was more important to me than the front locker and disconnects.

Honestly, based on what I've done to my Sport S Max Tow... if I had to do it over again, I'd just go Mojave... the only problem is that once i'm at that trim level, there are other features I'd want so it becomes more than the $5k difference that a feature by feature comparison was. I'd want the LED so I could get the Front camera. I'd also get the rear safety stuff.

I picked the Mojave because I live in the desert of Arizona. Also, the one available had sweet gray leather seats.

wanted a truck and I've always liked Jeeps from afar (as a former Hummer owner); wanted to branch away from GM and try something new

got the Sport S Max Tow as I'm never going to rock climb and needed ability to haul payload and occasionally a trailer

probably going to do minimal modifications so the higher trim levels weren't really in play for me personally, but I find it pretty cool so many vendors available with products that allow the customization ?

Gotcha - I went base Mojave (just a hard top and the tow package) and that was all, so it probably made more sense for me!

Rubicon 100%.

I had a JL Rubicon, and a JL Sport prior. I wanted to run 37s on the gladiator so the larger axles and lockers was a no brainer. I wheel enough to justify the cost and I didn't want to deal with upgrading later on. If you don't wheel often, Sport S Max Tow is a great option to get the 4.1 gears. Larger tires/wheels/lift can all be added to your liking afterwards if you need it.

I bought the Mojave with almost every option available (missing the lane assist and Selec Trac). The seats were more comfortable than the standard seats and since orange is my favorite color, it was a done deal. My wife saw it before me and called me over saying “this is the one we are getting“.
I wish the front lockers and remote disconnect were factory options I do not really need them for the off-roading I do, but it would be nice to have just in case and I may add them later.

I purchased an Overland because it was the only Gladiator on lot with tan seats (a self imposed requirement for central Texas). I liked the Rubicon’s but I would never use the rear locker nor the front sway bar disconnect. With an extra $7k off, I felt that overall I couldn’t pass up the deal!
That's one of the other things I didn't get that I wanted " tan seats", so a quick ordering of seat covers for me. Due to same reason and staining.
I'll probably be changing out the tires on my Sport S before long after having it parked next to my LJ on 33 MT's  I figured I would move them off of my retired XJ to wear them out, then I had them side by side.

I ultimately chose mine because the dealer screwed up on the advertised price and didnt catch the mistake until after preliminary papers were signed. They were cool and honored the price (I dont think they actually had too) It was technically a loss to them.

I was completely set on getting the Rubicon, and then... the Mojave came out. I honestly love all models of the JT, it's really about an individuals needs and their personal financial situation.

I got the M due to the reinforced frame, iron knuckles, and smoother ride. I will be doing mild crawling with this eventually, so I'll put a detroit or ARB locker up front some day.

Bottom line for me was, It's easier to add a front locker on a M than reinforce the frame on the R.

Plus; I'm old, and my JT is a daily driver so a smoother ride is good.

You won't want a Detroit or similar up front; you can't steer when it is engaged.
Thank you. But, respectfully, I've run a Detroit locker in front on my TJ for many years (over a decade) without issue.
It's an old wives tale that you can't... Run that detroit or lunch box locker up front... it's all good .

I ordered my Mojave as a 50th birthday gift to myself. Single and getting older so I figured what the hell? Never bought a new vehicle in my life. Had a 19 wrangler rubicon 2 door for 6 months prior. The ride quality and “cool” factor of the Mojave sold me. Test drove quite a few trim levels and ultimately the ride and potential resale value pushed me to the Mojave.

I had to have one in Snazzle Berry. There were exactly two within a 50 mile radius of Columbus, both at the same dealer. It was either the Willys or a High Altitude.
I'm not made of money, so, Willys it is! And, fortunately, it has everything I need and nothing I don't.
