Received my dealer survey today. F&I, and salesman asked for all 10's as I walked out. Nice enough guys except for the antiquated buying process and usual chicanery in the F&I office.

Heh. Yeah. LAST YEAR...my dealer told me that due to COVID they could not show me any of the functions of my JT. Then asked for all 10s.

Hit em as hard as you feel appropriate. Someone's bonus is based off the results.

I was firm, but honest. Charging me above advertised APR. I didn't care, I'm refinancing anyway. I just wanted their incentive money. 6K warranties. Falsely advertised prices on the internet.

Basically said your process is broken and you need to change. A 5's or less in there by the way.

Ask them if they're willing to compensate you for an exceptional survey........

Then fill it out truthfully.
The only people they want to compensate are themselves. Asked me to not refinance for at least 6 months so they don't get a chargeback. Yeah, I'm all over that.

Everything I said was the truth and clarified I had no bias towards the staff, just the process.

I literally had to threaten my dealer with a poor review to get a $4K equity check they owed me.... These surveys are complete crap, but unfortunately seem to hurt the salesman the most.

FCA needs to step up and solve the problem to get accurate results. Otherwise, it's 10's or everything else is a 0, which helps no one. And I get this speech at every single purchase.

And yes, I'm still pissed at my dealer, gave them 10's, got my check, and will never be back.

I didn't feel this dealer did anything any other dealer wouldn't do and therein lies the problem.

Exactly. The model and process is the problem. The human behavior that process reinforces and thus motivates is a symptom of the problem that we each experience every time we go to buy a vehicle at a dealership. It is an antiquated process seemingly created to disadvantage the consumer at every step. This business model is set up to eek out every last dollar from the consumer, ethics be damned. It is rooted in a time when consumers had very limited access to information and were therefore just grapes for the picking by unscrupulous car dealers. It needs to just go away entirely and be replaced by a customer-centric experience with less emphasis on "the deal" and more on transparency, honesty and fairness.

The current dealership/salesperson/sales manager/F&I office approach has got to be reducing the overall amount of sales by making the process miserable and thus driving at least some number of consumers to buy cars less frequently. I know that is true in my case - if the process were straightforward and customer-focused, I'd definitely buy and sell vehicles more often. I like cars/truck/motorcycles and have the financial resources to acquire them without it hurting too badly. However, as it stands now, I will only put myself through that cr@p if I absolutely have to and therefore the industry gets less of my money than it otherwise would.
