Oh no, this guess is much less exciting in the short-term: The JL folks think it's about meeting new fuel economy numbers.
That's such a specific number that I'm inclined to believe this one. I would not at all be surprised if they announce a bunch of PHEV or electric models or something given how hard they're trending across the industry.

A guy on 6G Bronco said the 40.4 is the MPH where death wobble starts. Pretty funny.

That’s the psi of my tires every damn time the dealer touches it
I've always told my service manager to never touch my tire pressure. I'll never forget the first time ever I got a oil change back 8-9 years ago when I was driving my JK and noticed they inflated my 35" tires to 40psi :surprised:

Some people are suggesting Jeep will soon offer a Wrangler Roadster, but I don't know the connection between that and "40.4".

It also seems possible this is the eMPG rating of the Gladiator 4xe, considering the Wrangler 4xe eMPG rating is something like 49.
Hoping for this...

From the JL thread (also saw it on the Bronco6g forum):

https://webcache.googleusercontent....kage-details-specs+&cd=10&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

Ford just started (finally) shipping Broncos to its dealerships to fulfill the long-awaited customer orders. On the heels of that announcement, Jeep went and one-upped the all-new Bronco by snatching back some best-in-class titles.

Let the 4x4 wars begin!

Jeep bests Bronco thanks to its all-new Xtreme Recon package. Available on Wrangler 4-door and Wrangler Rubicon 392 models, Xtreme Recon adds LT315/70R17C (35-inch) BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain Tires, 17-inch x 8-inch Beadlock Capable Wheels, 4.56:1 Axle Ratio, and 1.5-inch Factory Suspension Lift with uniquely tuned shocks.

This Wrangler-from-the-factory with 35s is capable of some impressive stuff thanks to its industry-first 100:1 crawl ratio when owners specify the optional 4.88:1 axles. Xtreme Recon improves other specs, too, including best-in-class approach angle (47.7 degrees), departure angle (40.4 degrees), ground clearance (12.9 inches), and water fording depth (33.6 inches).
