My only complaint with the 3.6 is towing! If I’m not towing my trailer the 3.6 has a decent amount of pep. I remember driving my Dad’s 1989 2.6 Mighty Max (109 HP); in comparison the Gladiator feels like a race truck lol.

GME-T6 for 2022 please.

Something has to be coming out in regards to a new power plant. Ive never seen the local dealer lots this empty between model years. The only explanation is that the 3.6 is being phased out. Much less people would by a 2021 NA 3.6 if a 2022 has a I-6 turbo option.

Surely a solution can be found without adding a turbo(lag). Yes, turbo systems have evolved but not my cup of tea.

A lot of us wish we could have the 5.7L, and they'd sell like hotcakes. @tjZ06 mentioned it would probably make it hard to sell both leftover Pentastars as well as new ones, but even with that going on the problem is not with Jeep, the problem is CAFE and MPG standards from DC Sky Daddy
The mall crawlers and posers will not care as it is all about the looks, not substance.

We ran down to San Diego on New Year's Day to see grandkids, my wife has a lead foot with the proper motivation. The Grapevine is lots of long pulls uphill, and 80-85 MPH pretty much the whole way. Traffic was MOVING that day, what little of it there was, we were constantly being passed by faster traffic. 6 hr trip in 4.5 hrs with a stop for lunch.

17.8 MPG calculated.

JTR 8spd with 35's and corrected speedo.

How in the world do you get 20mpg going up any type of grade? With 4.10s I could barely hold 8th gear here in Texas and above 75mph the fuel economy just dropped to 15. That was driving back from Roswell on relatively flat highway.

With 35s I've dropped down even further and I definitely do not have a lead foot. Typically I've always gotten better than advertised mpg but the Jeep is not having it. I get better fuel efficiency in my full size Navigator loaded up.

Oddly enough, my sister and BIL have a 78 Golden Eagle 304 V8. Even has the Levi's seat covers, she had it resprayed over the original chocolate brown, put the decals back on, whole nine yards. Lovely little piece of history - and a weekend only vehicle. She actually drove my YJ to confirm a suspension refresh was worth it, she put 2" leafs and 31's on her CJ and it transformed the ride. The Howell EFI brought power and mileage back into the picture. Quadradrive still sucks, though.

Even compared to my YJ, that CJ a slow clumsy beast, but the 1930's technology of the CJ/YJ series was good enough in the past. The JL/JT are LIGHT YEARS beyond that, and we're the beneficiaries of modern technology applied to an old use case.

Again. The original premise is wrong. From a site that aggregates acceleration times from various sources. Its not even close.

That is not to say that Jeep doesn't need a new engine for the Gladiator. The turbo 2.7 in the bronco makes 330 hp and 400 ft-lbs of torque.

The only way to get something torquey and powerful like this from Jeep is with the 4xE or the 392. There is no middle ground.

But even still, there is no comparison between the old stuff and the new stuff.

We are truly living in the GOLDEN age of automobiles.

I think they should do positive displacement forced induction on the 3.6 the programming is already part of the Operating system, as it leverages the OS found in the hellcat engine variants. The aftermarket is having trouble hotting the mark but that is because they are trying to leverage common hardware and tuning practices. If you chrysler made a small hellcat supercharger with electric bypass and complimentary VVT tuning. The engine would be a solid performer. More than happy to let someone drove my rig. It; s pretty solid on road, off road, and yanking a trailer. It has had extensive tuning for the trans and engine. I also have put some work into the suspension and steering. These trucks can be daily driver, but to be used has a halfton and look cool you have to work for it, at the moment. I think the 4xe would give you a factory option though.

Horsepower numbers went from SAE Gross to SAE Net in 1972/3, which resulted in a large drop in output figures, even if it was a more realistic number.

Kevin
Also, full on implementation of the 1970 Clean Air Act rolled out in the mid 1970's. The manufacturers really made some less than ideal choices in how they bolted on smog control devices on legacy designed engines of the day.

It really took until the mid 1980's before clean sheet engine designs taking in emissions considerations started rolling out .

Ha. The solution for today's world with CAFE and such is hybrid.

A hybrid like the 4xe system can make torque at zero RPM to get you off the line and can also step in to help while a turbo is spooling up.

The saying goes you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but as Jeep turns 80, the adventure brand of Stellantis NV is looking to make some of its biggest moves yet.

On the docket over the next 10-plus years, Jeep CEO Christian Meunier says, is electrifying the lineup to become the world's greenest SUV brand with a fully battery-electric model in each segment by 2025, adding autonomous capabilities and maybe even going fully underwater. It's got some new competition in Ford Motor Co.'s Bronco, too, but Jeep plans to stay on top in the off-road market.

Dang that is ambitious. All I really wanted was LED Lights and a nice audio system in it without have to sell off a Kidney and Lung to get them. A 5.7 for a few extra grand would have been nice. Maybe they should hear what people are wanting and not so much about what is going to bring them good press

Has 4 wheel steering been mentioned anywhere? A tighter turning radius would be nice.

With the options the bronco has under the hood something will come, and I’m guessing sooner rather than later with all the articles praising Fords power plants in the bronco. I say give it time and it will come.
