Agree 100%, from Florida and having been in sugar sand, and muddy swamp water up to my windows. A good set of MTs do more than lockers. Also knowing how to approach and depart from such situations. Only time I got stuck was in muck, looked like quick sand. Anyone would've been stuck.I had a manual Wrangler JLU with the anti-spin diff option. I never came close to getting stuck. Only time I got stuck was in sand because I slowed down and it was too steep. I would have been stuck with anything. I still managed to get myself unstuck on my own. Maybe even a Mojave unless I went full throttle up the sand dune and with some high speed to begin with. It's too dangerous for that at Pismo Beach, CA. I went over some pretty rough rocks and articulation up some hills. I was on 35's and a 2.5" spacer lift. I never felt the need for lockers. Although, they are nice to have if you ever need them.
So I went with a Willys Sport with the Gladiator because of the terrible departure angle and longer wheelbase. I was also satisfied with the Anti-Spin diff. I don't really see a purpose for a Rubicon on a Gladiator unless you have a pretty decent lift, big wheels, and are going to be climbing up rocks / steep hills. Your worst enemy will be the departure angle and dragging the belly. Not the need for lockers.
Thus which is why I think the Mojave is the best trim for the Gladiator. The truck shines in the desert, high speed, and suspension. Not over rocks and hills like the Wrangler does.
I don't feel comfortable going over hills and rocks on the Gladiator like I did with my Wrangler. That is my opinion though.
Only thing I wanna trade up for is the diesel in gecko green when available. Diesel will just suit my needs better. My previous lease was up before the diesel model came out, so I settle for gas to see if I like the platform... love it. Might do willys like u suggested.
