I found extra room in my Fuel tank.

Today while fueling up with diesel.
I found what appears to be 3 extra gallons worth of space in my diesel tank. I was fueling up and at 10 gal, 10.5 to be exact, the nozzle clicked off.
I waited for 10-15 seconds, and proceeded to lightly squeeze the pump handle to see how far I could get and to my surprise, I was able to Pump from 10.5 gal to 13.8 gal before the nozzle clicked off again.

How full was the tank initially? There's always air in the top plus the foamy stuff from fueling plus filler tube. I can't imagine you have a 21 gallon tank in your diesel. Vs mine at 18. Just a guess.

I was one full click below half a tank before fueling.

I’ve done this with 20 miles range left (drive to empty). It does work, I got just over three gals more in. Patience is key if you want extra range on that tank.

My fuel filler door says to wait 10 seconds. Maybe that’s what they mean.

I remember a friend of mine with a TJ doing the 19 gallon mod on his 15 gallon tank. All he had to do was shorten the fuel filler tube. Apparently jeep used the same tank for everything and changed out the filler tube for each model.

Now here is the interesting thing.

52 miles into the drive after fueling up.

Strangely,, The range started to show 468 miles to empty.
And here's what it showed when I reached home.

I've got to stop reading diesel threads....

That's pretty normal for diesel fuel as it foams a little when poured quickly. Waiting after the pump kicks off lets the foam settle and then you can slowly top it off.

I did this on a TJ. It is the vent tube that you shorten. It works, but the sending unit still showed full at 15 gallons.
