I always top it off if the pump will run slow enough. I once drove into a station on fumes and pumped over 20 gal in..

I was a common mod on the 3rd gen Rams to relocate the vent to the highest spot on the tank and gain 5 gals of capacity without having to trickle it in. I usually didn't top off when it was going to be parked for extended time in the heat though.

The video above probably covers it but just be aware that extra fuel does not always end up in the tank... I'd imagine the diesel has some sort of evap system like the gas engine and overfilling a tank is a great way to flood and ruin your canister.

One extra click is fine but adding as much as you have is either indicative of a problem with your vehicle or very bad for it. There's an engineered margin built in but it's not 3 gallons.

FYI........due to the design and location of the fuel filler tube, and the rake in the truck, you can see a swing of up to 3 gallons of being "full" on truck position at pump. My local gas station has a significant grade, and how much i can pump depends on whether or not my truck is nose up or nose down at the pump.

My sticker and options sheet says 22 gal tank and package upgrade says extra 4 gallons. so i assumed mine had 26 gal but when the fuel light come on i fill it with 16 gal. 18 stock and extra 4, 22 sounds right. Unleaded

Yep, I can definitely get more in if I'm leaned away from the pump instead of towards it.

I'm not aware of any canister on the diesel, but for sure on the gas vehicles....DO NOT ADD 3 EXTRA GALLONS TO A GAS VEHICLE!

The 4 gallons was likely referring to how much gas was in the tank.

The thing has 440 miles of range on a full 18 gallon tank. I’m not hung up on trying to extend that.

Just think of it this way:

By stopping at 1 click you get to save your fuel vapor recovery system from damage and as
an added bonus you get to pick up another one of those sweet cream cheese stuffed pretzels from Wawa or some tasty gas station chicken (which we all know is the best chicken) just a few miles earlier than if you had put a little more fuel in it. Sounds like a win win to me.

When you get out in the desert......the speed limits are high for poor fuel economy and the fuel stops are spaced out! I'll take what I can get! I once was getting 24mpg and the range was more than enough to get to the next stop, but the headwinds and higher speeds made us come up 40+ miles short....good thing I had topped off to the neck! I usualy carry a few gakls in the bed on these trips just in case.

I’ll take jerry cans in that case and just pack extra pretzels. Better than doing $1000k damage to the emissions control system that puts me in limp mode in the middle of nowhere for a few extra gallons.

Thats another reason I got the diesel. I’d rather carry diesel jerry cans than hang gasoline bombs off the side of my rig.

No,
There's nothing mechanically or physically wrong with my vehicle or fuel tank area.

*Diesel engines do not have vapor canisters.

This is not my first diesel vehicle, I've been running diesel for the last 25 years.
I've always been able to get extra fuel in the tank by slowly squeezing the trigger after allowing the air and foam to settle down.
The last click that I found did not leave the fuel level at the filler neck opening.
I would never do that.

There's no diesel fuel odor while parked in the garage.
Nor did it spill diesel fuel on ground or in the environment.

Let me set the record straight.
I am not saying that my fuel tank is larger than anyone else's.
But, If by some weird chance. During my build, an overworked employee, put in a larger tank fuel tank, so be it.
But the manual clearly says 18.3 gallons + 5 for the def.
My point is, once the air and the foam died down, I was able to safely put a couple of more gallons into the tank.
That's all, nothing more.

By the way, yesterday was one week since that post. I was able to get 462 miles on that tank.
And the fuel gauge read 1/4 with 23 miles to empty.

I will leave this here....
Only a blind and retarded person is over filling to the point the gas is pouring on the ground. The pump isn't sticking the fuel back quicker than it's being pumped. I've had 0 evap system failures in 30+ years and probably 2 million plus miles and I've topped off every fuel up ever. The video is 100% pointless click bait in my opinion and experience.
