My wife decided she wanted a newer Grand Cherokee so she stopped by the dealership and found what she was looking for at a good price, pre-owned w/<20k miles. While she was there she snapped a pic of a 21 Ram 1500 Quad Cab with a 5.7 liter HEMI, white w/ all black trim and black interior, just like my Gladdy. We’ll it happened and before I knew it I spent the weekend getting the JT back to stock and trading it in on Labor Day.
Now, before I get any hate, I’d like to give you my honest feelings and reviews. I have been a Jeep fan for 20 years and have owned 1 XJ, 1 ZJ, 1 JKU 1 JT and 2 WK2’s. I was foaming at the mouth to get one of the JT’s as soon as I caught wind that they were in the works. I have a 27ft camper that is within the capabilities of the JT. Technically. I found that even with adding AirLift helper bags in the rear the JT had a hard time maintaining steady control of the camper. It was becoming obvious that a full-size truck was in order but I was in sentimental denial. Finally, a trip to western Maryland beyond the Cumberland Gap sealed the fate of the JT. It struggled with the long inclines and was being wagged by the camper quite a bit. In fact you can still see the teeth marks on the fabric where my ass chewed a hole in the seat.
Besides all that, I had death wobble twice, numerous electrical gremlins, two leaky back windows and it went into limp mode two times without explanation.Additionally, I’m disappointed by some things Jeep overlooked on design like lack of towing mirrors, no manual tow/haul button and no factory brake controls (Although I know they have that now as an option).
All that said, I did have a blast with it and we are still a Jeep family as my wife has a new Grand Cherokee. I have certainly not walking away from Jeep, it just may be time to start looking for a TJ project…..?
Thanks to all of you for your help, write up’s, good ideas, bad ideas and fun!!
