I’m looking into lifts and tires. I’d like to go 38” tires, but I’m planning some out of state trips soon. I live in Houston so out of state means high mileage trips. Does anyone here do high mileage trips on tires 37 inches or bigger? Just looking for experiences. Thanks
We (family of 4) take regular long trips in ours, on 3" lift & 38s. Longest was a 19hr drive straight through to Myrtle Beach, SC last year. No complaints from anyone.

It's also my DD, averaging 2K miles/month.

Too funny, I'm also in Houston. In June we went to Colorado Springs. I'm on 37s. the Jeep ran just fine, straight and ran cool. BUT - the gas mileage was horrific. I never saw 8th gear even on log straights. Even 7th gear was rarely seen.

I recommend a re-gear if you do long trips. other then that, it should be fine.

Thanks man. Yes it is. Going to wrap it and use it as a sticker board from our adventures going forward.

Yeah even on 35's it seems like the sweet spot is between 72-78mph anything above 80 you start losing MPGs unless it's super flat. For the most part who needs to go 80 in JT anyways, it's a truck. In NC the most the speed limit gets is 75 and I could be wrong on that and it may be just 70.
there are several places in Texas where the speed limit is 80 and a few where it is 85. I put the cruise on 80 when I drive the JT to work and it’s rare that I pass a soul in my 49 miles drive. They all pass me.

I know it sounds bad but, dont you want your motors at a lower rpm for better mpgs?

I am sure that one needs to factor in peak power, etc, which is made at higher RPM in a lot of modern engines, but yes, that is absolutely the conventional wisdom!
