6 Speed Manual Regrets?

I have an appointment to get this installed tomorrow. Just got done breaking in gears (took me a while to get to 500 miles) and get the oil changed. Did some hill holding /stall testing and light off-roading with the stock clutch and new gears to baseline. Will post the Centerforce results after install and break in.

Good video - I was really surprised how fast you traveled in 1st gear & 4LO; I thought the crawl ratio would be better on these.

Thanks. It does look fast. I think it was really like 2mph. The crawl ratio is pretty darn low. Something like 84:1 stock. Haven’t done the math but it should be even lower with 5.13 gears (even with 37s). I think the RPMs are higher at start up. I’ll do the repeat test similarly.

500 miles for gear break on …..I work from home and have several vehicles. I had to take it easy in my Gladiator while I was waiting on the gears break in , no towing, off road, hauling or horse play. - exactly the opposite of what I bought it for. I definitely take a bunch of pics of the stock clutch and post on my YouTube.

Definitely looks like twin discs (I didn't tear into it but there is another disc / friction surface inside the piece connected to the flywheel). and small/lightweight compared to the Centerforce single disc and beefy flywheel I put in.

Thank you! That is a complex clutch! Probably why it takes 1000-2000 miles to break in.

Small, lightweight, thin, dainty clutch discs too. They remind me of the clutch in a 4cyl Pontiac Sunfire I replaced many moons ago.

I've had my Willys Sport 6MT 3.73 for 2 months. Yes, I absolutely was regretting the 6MT because of the gutless, no fun/boring & frustrating driving experience of this 6MT. I wanted to like it so bad. However, I kind of liked the 6MT on forest roads/mud. I've owned 8 MT cars/trucks before. I was ready to trade my Gladiator after 2 weeks because of the sluggish accelerator and in general non-inspiring motor. Pedal Commander has changed all of that! It is so much more fun and actually feels quick. I'm very excited to have found the Pedal Commander from this forum. I am grateful for my newly found excitement for my Jeep Gladiator...it's a keeper now.

I second that, but I have the iDrive Throttle Controller. Makes a huge difference.

I had the manual transmission on my 2019 Wrangler Rubicon and disliked so much I bought the Gladiator. I am n a truck driver and have driven manual all my life. The jeep clutch stunk. In the mountains had to run 4 low all the time. Pedal Too soft and with the revs hanging couldn't stand it any more. Am really enjoying the auto on this gladiator and don't miss the clutch at all.

I liked my jeep before the throttle controller, don't get me wrong. I think the gearing probably makes a huge difference ( 4.1s on my Rubicon vs 3.73 on Willys). But now I love it. So much easier to rev match, and take off in traffic, also, just more engaging.

I have the idrive, which has an "econ" mode. Econ mode is perfect for low speed control off road. I think all the throttle controllers have something similar, either an off-road mode, or econ mode. Last time out, I climbed some pretty steep inclines without stalling once, and without even the hint of burning the clutch. It's perfect for off-road use.

Oh that is good to know. I have not heard mention of that mode before now. I notice the low speed control of stock control is a bit touchy.
