It should If ignition is on run.
You can pop start it UNLESS the battery is flat dead. The alternator needs a minimal voltage before it will produce power (unlike the old generators) and its controlled by the ECU. Kind of a catch 22 thing. It should If ignition is on run.
Yep. Works just like you'd think it should. The start button "key" needs to be in the RUN position and then let up the clutch in 2nd while rolling forward and the engine starts. Did it accidentally once when I stalled in my slight downhill driveway (yeeshDoes that still work with the computer controlled JL/JT?
that was embarrassing in front of my 14yr old who is learning to drive stick from me!). My old training kicked in and i pushed the clutch in to try to save the stall but the had already engine died - so I shifted into second and let up on the clutch and then pushed it back in i.e. I "popped" the clutch and the engine started right up.Kind of neat isn't it!Yep. In my daydreams, I think of a mechanically-injected high-output TDI engine...You can pop start it UNLESS the battery is flat dead. The alternator needs a minimal voltage before it will produce power (unlike the old generators) and its controlled by the ECU. Kind of a catch 22 thing.
To me JT is kind of schizoid with some elemental aspects mixed with prius electroidizms. I want the Luddite package: key switch, real gauges, non-integrated electronics. Of course lots of map pockets too![]()
I too dream of this, then I wake up and realize I have Electronic Direct Injection, Push button start, and manual door looks. One day the JT may not start but at least the doors should work!In my daydreams, I think of a mechanically-injected high-output TDI engine...
Actually we have indirect gasoline injection, which I prefer over direct for gasoline. DI for gasoline seems good in concept but problematic in practice, with things like the EGR and PCV glopping the valves up without the fuel washdown from the indirect injectors. TDI all the way on diesel, though...I too dream of this, then I wake up and realize I have Electronic Direct Injection, Push button start, and manual door looks. Right on! I've owned both Peugeot and Mercedes mechanical turbo diesels. A lightweight version would be severely fun in the JT. Side note. I have a Detroit Diesel 8v71. No glowplugs. Rotate the engine with fuel rack on and it will start! No battery needed whatsoever. In my daydreams, I think of a mechanically-injected high-output TDI engine...
Any updates?I'm dealing with my only "regret". I just need a beefier clutch and flywheel for towing and off-roading.
I have an appointment to get this installed tomorrow. Just got done breaking in gears (took me a while to get to 500 miles) and get the oil changed. Did some hill holding /stall testing and light off-roading with the stock clutch and new gears to baseline. Will post the Centerforce results after install and break in.Any updates?
I would love to get one of these installed in my Mojave. I know I would love it. Just can't justify the cost right now as I have other trucks for hauling and trailers, but still would love it.I have an appointment to get this installed tomorrow. I hear ya. This is my rationalization - you literally use the clutch every time you drive, anywhere. It’s worth investing to make it do the things you want it to do. You’ll get your money’s worth. I applied the same rationale to my gears. My wife just shakes her head a d sighs…. It’s really an obsession OlllllllO …lolI would love to get one of these installed in my Mojave. 500 miles?? Hey I want your old clutch. Maybe. Might be expensive to ship. Can you show detailed pics of the old clutch.? There is a ton of misinformation around about it. Like whether or not it has two discs for example.I have an appointment to get this installed tomorrow. Just got done breaking in gears (took me a while to get to 500 miles) and get the oil changed. The electronics, the PCM (ECM these days), ignition, etc. require a minimum voltage. Nothing happens if the battery is flat on these systems. You can pop start it UNLESS the battery is flat dead.
