I vote diesel, but I'm also biased. I have a 2015 and 2020 Ram EcoDiesel. I'm looking forward to a Gladiator EcoDiesel.
I have a 21 Gladiator EcoDiesel and love it. Depending on where you live, I would check the dealers to see if they have the staff to work on your vehicle (if needed). I recently had a check engine light come on and was told because of the lack of staff they wouldn’t be able to see me until Feb. 4th.

Fortunately, I live in diesel country. I toggle back and forth between two dealerships. Both dealerships have a designated EcoDiesel tech. Not only are they good diesel mechanics, but they have a positive attitude and seem to really take pride in their ability to diagnose and repair. My dealers also sell many Ram and Jeep EcoDiesels, so the techs are really familiar with the entire engine including engine replacements.

Like most platforms, the Motori 3.0 will treat you well if you know the rules. That 15' WK2 has had the shite beat out of it, pulling the 28' Airstream from the Cape to Salem, OR, via Death Valley, and back again. It was on that pull, in July 18', from Barstow to Needles, that it affirmed itself.

The diesel wasn’t out when I bought mine, but I would have considered it if it was available. Not as a necessity, but a want for that torque. That being said, I’m glad it wasn’t available when I bought mine. I have a few friends with diesel JLs and they all have had significant cooling issues. They need to sort that out before I’d consider one.

And understand, as I've recommended REPEATEDLY, proper and appropriate gearing at the axle makes the whole ownership experience more acceptable. AGAIN, and I must properly EMPHASIZE, the powertrain group build the platform around the 8HP, given the particular engine. Yes, the Vincenti plugs torque in the plug, but please understand....8 speeds are for your advantage. Don't short yourself.

Different engine from the JT though, right? Not really a fair comparison; the airflow would presumably be different in a WK too.

The diesel is amazing. Gobs of torque that will leave you smiling. I got my gasser before the diesels were out. Long term reliability would Be my only concern

Check my previous posts.
lol just say what you mean. I meant that just because a different generation has worked out well in your WK doesn't guarantee similar success in your JT.

Well, your opinion counts. These powertrains and associated systems are my vocation, and it's my business to understand them, from their base engine design, generational differences (as it pertains to NVH primarily), etc. etc. In the case of the Motori, the platform is considered "mature", the design of which is benchmark and pretty "mundane". I'd already worked-on two JLD's, digested the vendor cut-sheets, and knew EXACTLY what would be coming to me in it's current incarnation - with the exception of exploring methods of increased powertrain cooling (the discussion of which will be coming in a new thread soon enough) as it pertains to the requirement of mine to tow a 28' Airstream effectively without cooling issues.

there’s absolutely zero chance I’d own a gladiator without it being a diesel. Our fleet of eco rams has been the most reliable of all half tons we’ve ever run.
100% convinced I made the right choice

Is the argument that Diesel fuel is hard to find while overlanding in certain remote areas of western USA a valid concern in selecting the Diesel engine?
