Ive had these sitting in my amazon cart for like two weeks, debating on the purchase. Think im sold! Ive seen many cheaper versions but they involved putting rivets in the hood, etc. Wanted something bolt on, and that wouldnt screw with the body fit / hood fit. Sounds like these have passed the approval test of the forum crew.

Also, one of yall posted a link to the website, thanks for doing that. Will skip the Zon and order direct from the supplier.

Have you contacted Redline about it? They work great with the hood on my Overland.
Heard back from Andreas at Redline. They are sending me a more powerful set of gas springs, with a 4A rather than 3A in the part number. I went out this morning and tested them again. The temperature was 61 degrees. If I raise the hood to where there is an 18-inch gap between the front edge of the hood and the top edge of the grille, it takes 65 seconds for the hood to raise the rest of the way. If I raise it less than 18 inches, the hood remains stationary. It is the standard Rubicon hood with nothing added.

Oh! Hang on I'll check that.

Update, mine came with the 4A set of springs.

Interesting. I ordered the exact same kit and was sent the 3A, a weaker spring. If you look at videos in Amazon reviews, the rate that the hood rises varies considerably. In some, the hood has to be raised quite a bit before the springs kick in and lift it the rest of the way slowly. In others, the hood is barely opened and rises considerably faster. So Redline appears to be sending the same kit with different springs for some bizarre reason...not a very good business practice. At least they sent out the 4A springs quickly.

Did you order through them directly or someone else? I ordered direct. And like I mentioned, I don't have to lift it even an inch. It goes up as soon as I release the lock. I can ask if you want as far as why kits vary.

I finally got the 4A springs and installed them. Now the hood raises fully in about 3 seconds as soon as it is unlatched. That's how I expected it to work in the first place. The 3A springs just did not have the power to properly lift the hood.

I had a limited amount of money and was hesitant on which mod to do next. I ended up going with a Module from https://www.unichipeurope.com/, although this strut kit was close competition. Should this be my next mod?

Just as a followup - It's been -11 to -17 Celsius here for a few days over the last couple weeks. I needed to add washer fluid. The hood opened up with no issue even in these colder temperatures. Solid product from my point of view.

Temps here sub-zero (F) and same thing - been a ton of crap on the roads with the slush and snow and ice. needed washer fluid. They are pretty strong even when it's cold. The brackets seem stout, too, after having them on and used things a bit.

These are definitely neat but they should be updated with a quick disconnect so you can open the hood and lean it back on the windshield like you can do without them installed. This allows for significantly more room and light to work in the engine bay. with these installed you are limited to the length of the hood strut.
I'd need a quick disconnect too. I was thinking about ordering this, but then I thought about how convenient it is to lean the hood on the windshield when you need to get to the back of the engine. That's one of the best jeep features out there, and one that never gets discussed. Everyone knows about the removable doors and the convertible and the windshield that folds down. But the hood folding all the way back is a jeep thing that's been there since the beginning too. I think I'm going to stick with the hood prop for now.

I don’t remember if they are Redline or not but I have a set on my 2011 JKSU that I am glad that I purchased. I don’t have use of my right arm so I slide the hood latch, hood raises, stays up out of the way until I need to close it.
Seems to move slower when it’s cold out, but so do I. One of the more “usable” mods that can be appreciated.
Vic (if I can call you that) we all move slower in the cold these days

There is a quick disconnect. Not sure how quick in the winter. But it's there.
