Honestly man, it was a bit of a legit question. The build will have a hemi and hydraulic steering assist. Doing 40s regardless but was mostly just curious about the difference in the extra width.

And my reply to you wasn't sarcastic in the slightest. I liked the humour. A lot of folks on various auto forums take themselves incredibly serious - I am not one of them.
So you won't be slow. ha.

Steering will be sloppy simply because there is so much sidewall. When you turn the wheel the tire flexes laterally until it provides enough force to turn. The taller the sidewall the longer that takes.

There will obviously be big compromises in on-road manners. The question is whether you can live with that.

Just a thought, but go on the JLWrangler forum and see if you can find anyone locally who has a JL on 40s and take them to lunch in exchange for a ride.

Ideally you'd find a local Gladiator on 40s. But there are a lot more Wranglers out there.

Fair. That is a good suggestion as well.

Thanks.

I don't take myself too seriously either. So I tend to piss people off unintentionally sometimes.

One other thing. I see you have a whole stable of great handling cars with nice grippy low profile tires. So you know what I'm talking about.

Given your amazing and extensive quiver of daily drivers, I'd say go for it.

Most of the guys who ask about 40s don't have the luxury of falling back on a GLS63 for a daily driver if they need to knock off a 500 mile drive and not arrive feeling like someone Was clubbing them in the head with a 2x4.

Which is what that drive would be like in a Gladiator on 40s.

Haha. Man...the GLS is my wifes. I was currently daily driving the GT500 and have my daughters car seat in the front - not a great scene. Really regretted getting rid of my JL.

I have winter tires on the GTR but had broke the power steering pump (got it back yesterday after two weeks) - so back in that now in the wet and cold roads.

The GT500 doesn't have a back seat right? Can you turn off the passenger airbag for the car seat??

But either way, if you want to do a road trip with the family, you have the Benz.

100% correct. They gt350r had a rear seat kit you could buy and install (which we had) and I incorrectly assumed the gt500 would also have that kit available.

Seat has a sensor and i disables the airbag due to being underweight.

I was considering a GT350 and a M2 Competition. My wife reminded me that I drove way too fast as it was in my Volvo sedan that I got after we had kids and I sold my STi. The counterintuitive thing is that as the kids get older you can go back to smaller cars.

In 2007 when we had our first kid, we went from a Miata and a modified 2004 STi to a Volvo and an Audi. Blah.

I like the fact that the jeep feels "old timey". It steers like my '66 Chevy, which I am happy to drive slow. I was hoping the jeep would slow me down also and it has.

Think I am going down a very similar path my friend. The GT350 was great because of the manual transmission and the voodoo engine; however, it was tough to get away from the weight, imo.

M2 Competition is, from what I have read, a savage animal on the track!

I had the opportunity to drive a 230, a M240 and an M2 Competition.

I like the M2 the most but surprisingly I really liked the RWD standard shift 230. It was not a beast but was light on its feet and very satisfying to drive.

you know the old addage that its more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow. It was a lot like my wifes miata that way.

the best part was that I could find a nice one a ocuplle of years old for about $20k.

I had 38 x 15 50s on my super duty and they were fine. But I would not put them on a midsize pick up. That’s just too much weight for such a small vehicle. Steering will suck, braking will suck, acceleration will suck. Also, they have to stick out really far so that you can have any kind of turning radius. My super duty had leaf springs so I had next to no turning radius.

Well if it's gonna be a mall crawler build or you just like the look go ahead, but if you go offroad you should go with a narrower wheel like a 8.5" or 9/.5" wheel

Noted. Won’t be a mall crawler. Have a couple of little ones that are really excited to explore and camp.
